Shorten front pto shaft

Hoping people still check this site. One more pto question. I've set my winch back z bit from std and now front shaft from engine mount bearing to winch distance is shorter. I'm about 25mm away from bring sble to slip it over the winch shaft. Anyone cut and shortened the front shaft? I was thinking ...

PTO winch holes in drum

Hey guys been a while since I've been on here. Been a slow rebuild of my 89 gq shorty. So fitting a pto winch. Noticed the drum has two holes drilled about 4mm in the center of the drum. Is that normal? Just worried it just let's mud and water in but they look like they are suppose to be there. Are ...

Re: PTO drum play

No this is not rotational movement. If I grab the drum and push/pull it, it moves slightly on the shaft. The freespool etc stays still but the drum has slight play. Not lateral e.g. sliding across or rotational but forward/backward. Not sure how else to describe it. Does the drum ride on the shaft o...

PTO drum play

Guys I've just installed a PTO winch on my GQ Safari. Quick question. Now its mounted up (minus rope at the mo) the drum freespools fine. Its firm but i can turn it over without any issues. However if i grab the drum I get a little bit of front back movement e.g. if I pull or push on the drum I get ...

Re: SWB GQ overhaul

Hmm i've gone round and round on the roof chop idea and decided not to. Bunch of reasons but the main one is I sometimes use it for work stuff and being able to leave tools in it locked up is handy.

Re: SWB GQ overhaul

Ok so its been a while as was working on the bronco. Started ion the rebuild of the GQ. Started with suspension. Have swapped out the old lift for 3 inch dobinson coils and EFS shocks. Also did adjustable panhards and superior engineering drop boxes rather than caster correction bushes. As part of t...

Re: Seats

Hmm well not exactly no mods. There use to be a thread about subaru seats goin in. I followed it a few years ago and put a set of Legacy seats into my SWB and the instructions were on the money. Involved a couple of pieces of flat to mount the subaru seat to the GQ base but the write up was good and...

Re: fj45 rat rod (ish)

Mate just had a quick skim. This is kinda weird ...but cool. Great to see the work your doing. Its coming together great. Will keep watching to see your progress. I've just gone the opposite way wanting a hobby/hot rod/work vehicle so ended up putting a 4 inch lift on an 82 bronco with a fairly work...

So longer lower rear arms to keep the diff and gearbox angles the same? No vibration issues with the 3 inch lift?

Re: Rebuild Rosie - SWB GQ

Still have to add upper bars to protect those. This is just the base. Need to get some steel and bends to finish that off. Planning on doing a central hoop over the winch then bars running off that out to the indicators and curving down to the end corners of the base. Hey cocksy, pretty sure I saw y...

Re: Rebuild Rosie - SWB GQ

Well got the first bit of the front bar sorted this weekend. Recessed them back into the grill a bit, ground down the old welds, added a couple of angle braces underneath then gave the whole lot some rust kill primer and a black top coat. Still want to add some upper bars up along about bonnet edge ...

Re: Rebuild Rosie - SWB GQ

Yeah think there is a vid of that build i've seen somewhere?? Yup agree angling the rear window same angle as the b pillar looks much better. Have seen a mint LWB with this done and changed back to two door. Looks fantastic. SWB has a few more issues due to lack of lenth. But keeping the angles look...

Re: Rebuild Rosie - SWB GQ

Hmm I'm thinkin ute like a wellside. That what you mean? Agree even then they look "short". Most i've seen retain a small side window where the rear section moves up to the front. If I took this path I'd want that side windo to be almost non existent so makes the rear wellside appear as bi...

Rebuild Rosie - SWB GQ

Well finally decided to give my SWB GQ (Rosie) a rebuild. Rosie as in "whole lotta Rosie" as shes big, not pretty, but been a great truck. So am starting slow as also have the rebuild of an 82 bronco on the go but while thats at the panel beaters I was getting itchy tool kit fingers so dec...

Craydiver I'll be watching the responses mate. Am in the same boat re a crook TD42 and been considering shifting to petrol v8. After a bit of head scratching I'm leaning toward the TD42 rework with good gear, "probably" with a good second hand engine but I gotta find one.

Thanks buddy. Yeah have hada chat to a few people and sounds like spacers are a good start. Now tossing up whether to hone and do rings on my existing engine or try and get a good second had one. "Good" being the key issue.

Had not thought about guard work but happy to consider that as a better option. Also interested in yo...

SWB GQ overhaul

Guys I'm back on this forum after being away for a few years. A lot changed so stopped 4wding but kept my trusty GQ (Rosie). Anyway so Rosie went from bouncing off trees to off curbs in the last 3 - 4 years. The TD42 has always had a fair bit of blowby and adding the turbo has not improved that situ...

New old member!!

Hey guys. Been off this site for a few years. Changed carears, wives and income levels but kept Rosie, my trusty SWB GQ. Also bought her a friend, a nice old Bronco that I've just put a 460 in and will become (after I've bought shares in Shell) my daily muck around driver. Have plans to then take Ro...
