Re: The Odlins Road thread
Have a look at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0xZ5ZX-KzWFPpNIfUi0zag, I have uploaded 3 small clips so far, will upload some more over the next week as time permits. My son has about 40 minutes from his GoPro which was stuck to the bonnet of the jeep, once that is uploaded I will include a link t...

Re: The Odlins Road thread
I went in today, first time in almost 6 years, is definitely cutting up, some big washout bits. A work colleague in a stock Isuzu on road tyres came along and tho' we had to pull him up one bit we got to the turn around area before the tank traps. Had to have several goes at some areas, picking the ...

Destination Polaris - Moab
Back in 1977 I spent a year in Moab, Utah and through the powers of facebook have come across one of my old class mates. She and her husband have a 4WD business in Moab using Polaris Side-by-sides, Polaris recently featured Moab and their business in a video, thought you might enjoy this. Back in '7...

Thanks Jerry, just enjoyed that in its entirety. Now we just need that sort of TV program in NZ to restore a few of the oldies in the sheds of NZ.
Re: dead jeep
I have a spare one sitting beside me that I imported from DiscountJeepParts.com when my one died 5 years ago, bought in 2 at the time just in case. The box is labelled WELLS, part # SU368 replacing 17220.02. Back then it cost me $US76.95 each plus $US40 shipping by USPS. Just checked my bank records...

That stirs the memories a bit, some 30 (cough) years ago I spent 3 months over a summer working on Mt Dasher doing fencing and other farm duties towards the practical requirements of my B.E. (Ag) at Lincoln/Canterbury. Some great experiences including driving a Toyota Landcruiser Flat Deck and an ol...

Picked Jeep up from William @ Carterton Auto Services, front brakes have been re-built with new pistons, rotors & pads, then to top it off one new universal required to get past the warrant man. Great job, and William has had the jeep in the back yard for the last two weeks and didn't charge me ...

This could be the crank shaft position sensor also, that behaviour is the same that happened with me - it would just suddenly stop and wouldn't start again until it cooled down. New sensor and we were away again.

and it still cuts out periodically and is a bitch to get started again! I had a problem where my jeep would just stop with no warning, and would take about 15 minutes to re-start. Turns out it was the Crank Shaft Position Sensor which is positioned near the top of the flywheel close to where the ex...

Doesn't look too bad at all. The grill is not original. I have had my Cherokee for at least 3 years now, predominantly used for getting me to the train station each morning and on off-road trips. It is thirsty, fuel consumption is not a feature of the 4.0, not a positive feature anyway. Price-wise s...

Re: Garston-Bannockburn OR Piano Flat-Roxburgh
The ford at the time had a steep entrance and exit due to heavy rain only a couple of days before. However it is definitely not snorkel depth. Hard to remember, but I think that was the only time on the trip where I contemplated putting the vehicle into 4wd, as Al says it is a 2wd gravel road. As to...

Re: Garston-Bannockburn OR Piano Flat-Roxburgh
I did this road about 4 years ago from the Garston end and apart from one ford it was a quite pleasant gravel back country trip. I was driving a 4wd Mazda MPV (diesel) with 7 adults on board and quite a bit of gear. It was definitely a well worth while trip, the scenery and history was great. I was ...

I bought my '95 XJ 4.0l off Trade-me about 4 years ago with a rough running motor. It turned out there was one of the pushrods was bent, that was caused by one of the lobes on the cam shaft being abnormally worn down. Might be worth taking off the rocker cover and checking the feel of all the pushro...

Re: Soft Wheel Nuts
Success today :D , the special socket that I borrowed off Sig managed to quite easily remove the soft cover over the steel nut that Vitara888 mentioned. Then the right size socket, a long breaker bar, and a bit of elbow grease got the nut moving. Had to repeat the same process on another one too. Ti...
