Re: Any tracks by Waipu ( in between whangerai and Workworth

There are some paper roads near Whangarei, nothing too exciting though, you can drive on the beach, but not the dunes etc and the beaches are pretty full this time of year, need to show some respect to the other beach users

Re: Terrano Auto not shifting out of 3rd?

If the auto is anything like a Pajero auto I would check the temp and speed sensors / connections to the computer (a Pajero auto wont go into od unless its up to temp and over a certain speed)

Re: Toyota Hilux 2.8 (3L engine) diesel starting issue

So I filled up yesterday and today it started normally (ie not starved of fuel / no need to pump the primer) Will having an almost full tank of diesel stop the fuel running back to the tank, as the tank is lower than the filter I wouldnt think so. Is filling up and the issue not reoccurring just a c...

Re: Toyota Hilux 2.8 (3L engine) diesel starting issue

I had the filter changed a month ago, then injectors done a fortnight ago, the problem has only just occurred in the last week.

Will get some clear line next week and start looking for air before I go ahead and get a new primer pump.

Thanks again for the help

Thanks for the info, yup had to prime it to start it today. Where would I put the clear line and what would it tell me, there are no obvious leaks (cant see any diesel drips anywhere, checked the engine bay and garage floor, nothing) Im picking its time for one of these http://www.trademe.co.nz/moto...

Toyota Hilux 2.8 (3L engine) diesel starting issue

After a couple of days of no use my hilux would not start yesterday, glow plug light came on then went out as usual but it was acting like it had no fuel. I popped the bonnet and primed the pump (primer on top of diesel filter was soft) then it started and ran well. Today it started but only just, o...

Hi and welcome. The first 4wd I took out with a 4WD club was also a Pajero, but the next model on from yours (94, 2.8 diesel) it was also a shiny when I started taking it off road but was slowly morphing into a club truck, steel wheels, front and rear bars, winch etc I managed to sell before it beca...

My Mitsi Pajero 2.8 turbo diesel started using water once, it had also never been overheated and are also known for doing heads. Turned out to be the radiator cap not holding pressure causing the expansion bottle to overflow.

Just had the injectors serviced, new tips etc, on my recent purchase, LN106 Hilux 2.8 non turbo, with 320,000km The injectors were well worn, maybe had never been serviced. Cost less than $500, while it wasn't bellowing black smoke, the emissions are now a lot cleaner and power increase is impressiv...

Re: Is my alternator on the way out??

My hilux did the same thing when I first bought it. It is a sign that the alternator is not working as it should, in my case it was a worn alternator belt. Unless you have already done so you may want to check your belts.

When it is a 2.8 non turbo diesel 2 hp is alot  I do not want to turbo it as I have heard the extra stress it would put on an 23 year old engine might just be too much.

Thanks for all everyones comments on these posts, I have got a lot out of all of them

Re: Getting the most out of a 2.8

If it has not been done already I will do the 'oil on the intake' test with both the K&N and also a paper filter to see how much worse the K&N is. Im also perplexed if K&N lets in that much dirt and it is bad for the engine how is the company still in business? From my internet research ...

I have done the following to my LN106 single cab 2.8 non turbo hilux. Extractors and big bore exhaust (noticed improved power) K&N hi flow air filter (noticed more power from lower in the rev range) Full service (engine, gearbox, transfer and diif oil replaced, they diffs were dirty, and diesel ...

Gave my new (new to me last month) hilux a service, new diesel filter, oil filter and oil, checked gearbox and transfer case oil and changed oil in both diffs. K&N air filter arriving tomorrow.

Diesel filter had what looked like rust in it, both diffs were nasty grey.

Unless you know when it was last replaced you may want to check / replace the diesel filter, doing this to my 2.8 non turbo hilux made a difference, its still slow up hills just not as slow.

I have done some research on this and while they say more air means more getting though, my opinion (yup it is just an opinion so may be wrong, but I am prepared to test it on my hilux) is that different air flow is causes by different filtering media, paper is not oil filled cotton.

I have put extractors and a big bore exhaust on my 2.8 diesel hilux (3L motor), it has improved the performance, too early to say whether it has had any effect of the fuel economy. I'm now looking at getting a K&N air filter, but when I measure the paper filter and compare it to the filter K&...

As I understand it a snorkel willstop water getting into the engine (which is when things get bent) there are tricks with the dizzy to keep it dry (and engine running), dont ask me what the tricks are as I drive a diesel but a search of the forums should find them.

If they are anything like a Pajero I would say yes the two are related. A Pajero auto will not go into od unless the engine has reached a certain temp and it is going over a certain speed (80km/h I think)

Has anyone had any experience with extractors and the toyota 3l engine?

Re: Gear leaver locks???????? any one heard or got one?

You might need two, one for the gear lever and one for the transfer lever (shift transfer into 'N' and tow it away)

Even then if they want a vehicle they will take it (remove drive shafts and tow)
