Re: Air operated free spool

Think I saw a free spool set up on the runva winches converted by 2up, think it was part of the kit or an add on, be worth a call to them to see if they have an off the shelf free spool.

Re: kzj 78 PTO drive

to be honest the drive gear was the easy and fast bit as it is straight forward and the manual shows it all and parts are off the shelf. hooking up the control lever and the custom mounts for the drive shafts took more time to get right. I used a 60 series 3 piece drive shaft for a front mount winch...

Re: Long time reader, First time poster, Toyota e locker

I used just differentials and the thicker v6 R&P is different to the G series. think you can swap in a standard 8" diff head to get moving until you can get parts in.

Re: Long time reader, First time poster, Toyota e locker

looks the same as the E-locker in the rear of my kzj78, when I destroyed mine I got a new R&P ex America. Is the v6 gear set. took 5 days to arrive, but you may find one of the guys on here selling them. also be worth doing a solid spacer on the pinion as the crush sleave is crap offroad. what p...

no different transfer box, the prado has a big pin 70 series case, means you can run a pto off it.

Re: KZJ78 Manual Gearbox whining

Transfer case can be done in place, crap job but did mine, gear box is a major. have you tried putting transfer case in N and see if it goes away. may help pinpoint the issue.
All the bits are available as kits from Don kyatt in Manukau.
Good luck

Re: my day of prado problems 1kz

Sounds like ecu all the way, is above the glove box, if you open it you may see the caps all bulging, The rear locker ecu is in passenger foot well behind kick panel, doubt it is the ecu on the locker, would look at plugs at the locker and the electric motor first as they live in the mud.

mine is a bit hard to start when cold to, figure its the glow plugs on the way out, but have found that if I give it a bit of gas pedal it starts much easier, but need to get off my butt and do glow plugs. But also could be leak in the fuel system have had a primer pump go out on me to.

Re: PTO Winch on 78 Prado.

no drama at all, you'll want to look at the shear pin set up I've got heaps better than std. you'll need to look at slop in drive shaft if you go through cross member. the std one does move a bit.
good luck

Re: PTO Winch on 78 Prado.

the issue is getting it high enough so the front diff won't hit the drive shaft at full flex, but not to high so the drive shaft won't hit the bottom of the rad. I'm using a 3 piece shaft but think the 2 would work better. Your welcome to come look at mine and see what bits work well and what doesn'...
