Re: Rovergauge Cable

If you're going to connect directly to the FTDI input then yes, just put a 390 ohm or thereabouts to ground at this point. If you look at the data output schematic of the 14CUX it is fed from 12v via a 500 ohm to the transistor collector, then a 100 ohm resistor out. Putting a 390 to ground will mea...

Re: Rovergauge Cable

Had's (Nicegear) lead should be fine, as should most any other serial-usb interface. Inverting the signal is straightforward - just use an NPN transistor such as a BC549 with emitter to ground, collector to the RXD line (of the interface) and feed the base from the 14CUX via a resistive divider (wel...

Re: Rovergauge Cable

It's been a while since I looked at this but if you found the FTDI board wouldn't config as needed I suppose I'd just invert the line using a bit of hardware - even a transistor would probably do.

Sorry I can't comment on the Trademe boards, I've never bought any of those.

Re: Anyone wrecking a post 2011 Defender?

Sorry if I wasn't clear - they're completely separate vehicles and I'd just like to get a few bits for each one... I used to do stuff like that back in the day and you could certainly make an older machine look quite smart, but in this case I simply have an old Series and a new Defender. That said I...

Anyone wrecking a post 2011 Defender?

Hi, as the title says i wonder if anyone knows of someone wrecking a post 2011 2.2TDCi Defender, pref a 110? I see a few have been written off around the place and I suppose someone must have bought them... Also, I'm looking for a few S3 bits in ChCh. If anyone has one they're parting out I'd be ple...

Re: Nissan Terrano starter issue

It's probably worth also checking your battery connections and leads - they may look ok but can sometimes have a high resistance that will cause just the problem you describe - and jumper leads can also be problematic. If the click you hear is from the starter area then it's likely to be either the ...

I have seen a Mistral with the rust problem, so it's worth checking, although I think it's a rarer issue than with the Terrano. Fortunately in this case I was looking at the vehicle for a friend and we passed that one by. He did however purchase another Mistral and is very happy with it. I've got on...

By all accounts they are prone to cylinder liner issues, the autos perhaps aren't the most reliable and you could have some problems with the air suspension. On the other hand they're a lot of vehicle for what you're likely to pay for one, they drive nicely (IMO) sound good and have a great tow rati...

If you're stuck I've got one in ChCh that I have as a spare for my various Nissans should I need it.

I'd need to get whatever it would cost me to replace should I need to at any stage. I'm not sure what that might be though, perhaps someone could help?

Re: Valve Shims 1KZTE WTD

FWIW years ago I made up a fitting for the valve refacing machine to size down jag shims.

If you need a thinner shim and had a micrometer I see no reason why you couldn't do this even with an ordinary bench grinder.

Just to defend the places you've been to it's worth noting you may have experienced a catastrophic failure of your suspension joint, and that it may not have exhibited any particular symptoms when they looked at it. Nick, I've never looked at the QD32 but it's possible they're similar to the TD27eti (perhaps someone else could confirm or otherwise?) as these appear to have problems not dissimilar to yours... Re: TD27T auto - resistor on speed sensor?

It might be worth adjusting the TPS, which in a D21 is on the top of the injector pump. Also check that it hasn't got a broken wire as it comes out of the sensor itself - I had one that did this and was able to repair it by cutting into the sensor a little and soldering on a new piece of wire. Other...

Phil, if it's a '96 then I imagine it has the electronic fuel pump? If so then they are known for playing up, unfortunately. I had intermittent shutdowns (amongst other things) with mine until it was sorted. That said I don't recall it refusing to start for such a long time - which could indicate so...

I've no specifc experience of this vehicle or motor but may be able to help.

I take it you still have the original sensor along with the one that's currently on the motor? For a start can you measure each one with a multimeter and tell us how many ohms they read?

Re: Terrano surging at low revs

Hi Race. There should be a crankshaft position sensor (CPS) at the front of your motor. If you have a multimeter and are able to measure it should read about 1.6k ohms. In the case of the Terrano motor there are three leads coming from it, one of which is not needed. On my Mistral ('95, manual pump)...

I now have the auto working correctly so for anyone contemplating this mod I can confirm it's possible to do without much difficulty. If you change over the pump, and have an auto, you need to ensure the replacement mechanical pump has the TPS fitted to the throttle shaft at the top of the pump. If ...

As the title implies this is about the later 'electronic' injector pumps that are commonly fitted to TD27's in Nissan Mistrals, Pathfinders and Terranos later than 1995 or so. I use the 'electronic' term somewhat lightly since in fact they turn out to be electro-mechanical and from what I can see th...

Re: TD27 with ... the sickness!

Any change in your water level and/or is it getting hot? If so it's likely getting water where it shouldn't.

Injector pump isn't loose or too far retarded? Move top away from engine to advance if needed. Excessively retarded will smoke and have reduced power, usually hard to start as well.
