Great trip, good bunch of fellas. West coast 1, Richs truck 0....went bang 4km from my house :( Bloody hell! Who would have thought it Rich? And when it had been so reliable & trouble-free all weekend too... I, on the other hand, only got as far as Springs Junction before having to be...

Hey Ineil - I'd be keen to do mine trip Sat. Not sure how your rivers are looking at the moment, assuming they're pretty normal we should be able to get through before they get up too much. I'd say they'll be cranking by Sunday. My 2C. Catch you somewhere Fri nite or Sat morn. Cheers, Steve (blue L...

Re: Reefton Winter 2013
Got permissions for the mine trip and over into the Waitahu, so I'll take that on either Sat or Sun (gotta be the weekend). If the weather's as wet as it's supposed to be the river will be pretty dodgy to cross so exiting via the Montogomery's track will be a no-go except for deep/swift-water capabl...

Re: Question for those running 31's & FTS lift opinion
Can anyone suggest shocks to use with a 2 inch lift and where to buy in nz? The new ones on trademe seem steep especially front struts Struts aren't very cheap but you can get by quite adequately with flipping the strut-hats for a two inch lift. For the rear shocks I eventually found a Gabriel shoc...

That's interesting considering that 4wdriving kept the town alive for many years. Now the gold and coal is flowing again they don't need us anymore... Al Hahaha. To be honest the more I read about what other people have done the more confused I am. But I like the sound of flipping the strut hats. If its possible could you or someone give me a list of exactly what I need to do to the front, and the rear to fit 30's.(with no rubbing) just so theres no confusi...

Re: Question for those running 31's & FTS lift opinion
As far as your question about 31s, I run them and really like the size. It does take a bit more work to ensure guard clearance but it's worth it in my opinion. I've got about 2" body lift, 2" suspension, hammered footwells and slightly cut front guards. With the 8V motor's torquey nature I...

Re: new to this game
If you fit the lifting springs you'll need to fit extended shocks and either strut spacers, extended struts or flip the strut hats. Otherwise you'll lose a chunk of articulation with the struts/shocks set up to work over a stroke that's offset from your new spring stroke. None of which is a biggie, ...

Re: Fuel use... What's your numbers .
If you're looking for a reason not to buy one, then just don't. No matter what fuel economy you get, you're not going to be happy with one. If you're really considering one, then in standard form the 1.6s will get around 8.5l/100kms when nana'd on a trip, dropping to (in my case) 10.5l/100kms on a r...

Re: Vitara Standard Wheel Offset, Best offset for running 31
Negative offset sticks out further than zero offset. Offset is the measurement of how far away from centre the hub mounting face is. Zero is centre, positive offset is mount towards the outside, neg offset is mount towards the inside, therefore the wheel is positioned further outwards as offset decr...

Re: Vitara Standard Wheel Offset, Best offset for running 31
15x7 rims (don't feel 8" is necessary for 31s), 31" GT Adventuro muds on about 1inch neg offset, and 31" Super Swampers on 0 offset. Both tire/rim combos give a little rub inside guards on high upward flexing, with footwells beaten back and minor front wheelarch trimming.

Would anybody coming on this trip be interested in a jaunt up for a look at the open-cast Echo coal mine here? Changing winch cable to rope?
Does anyone know if the Warn Tabor 10K can be fitted with rope instead of the supplied cable? It's on a Suzuki so weight is definitely an issue for me!
I don't know squat about winches and seem to recall hearing that some winch drums are not suitable for rope.

Are there any small size snorkel hat's?
Hi all. I have a 65mm OD steel snorkel and am sick and tired of losing the inevitably-insecurely mounted 75mm snorkel hats. Does anyone know of a smaller type that would fit the 65mm tube? Re: Thinking of buying a V6 4 door
I've got a 2.5 V6 Levante. It's a V6 Vitara with Grand Vitara running gear in it. The engine seems good but it's really thirsty on the gas, 10L/100km open road and 13-15L/100km around town. Good torque and power even though it has to be revved to get anything from it. The 2.0l 4cyl are supposedly p...

Re: cheaper petrol water blasters vs electric
Depends very much on what use you have for it. You can spend over a thou' for a really good electric one! Petrol are great if you can't guarantee safe power supply where you want to work, or if you need substantial blasting power. For most purposes though, a decent electric will do the job fine. If ...
