R50 TD27 Front Pulley

Anyone had issues with front crank harmonic balancer pulleys on a TD27 EDi? My truck decided it didn't like the drive belts while the Mrs was using it the other day. She told me that the lights came on the dash the previous day but forgot to tell me. But that's another issue GRRRRRR I put some more ...

Re: 1KZ-TE PRADO vs 1KD-FTV PRADO

Peter- we bypass the factory coolers because when people tow stuff here, the AT fluid increases the coolant temp to a point where the motor cooks. The eternal cooler helps reduce the risk of the head cracking. We put the coolers in front of the AC condensors where there's plenty of room and they can...

From memory only the RV doesn't have the flash bits. The VX and VX LTD has the down hill decent assistance and all the other bells and whistles. Might be some slight differences from the Aussie specs but will be pretty similar.

Re: 1KZ-TE PRADO vs 1KD-FTV PRADO

An aftermarket trans cooler would be a good advantage. Get the factory cooler in the radiator removed/disconnected if you do. Do a search on here for 1KZ mods and improvements. There's lots of things to give you ideas. If you're only using it as a family wagon there's probably no point going to extr...

Re: 1KZ-TE PRADO vs 1KD-FTV PRADO

All the CR (common rail) diesels have a fuel cooler from factory. Haven't seen a 1KZ-TE with DPF yet in my time with Toyota. Seats and seals is an ongoing issue with early KD's. The combustion gases can get past injector seats and the crud blocks the oil pickups. Pays to check the pickup through the...

Re: 1KZ-TE PRADO vs 1KD-FTV PRADO

NO! and no. The DPF are only on import KD's, no KZ's had them.

Those Rav's have oil burning issues (we have replaced a heap of blocks and re-ringed so many more), plus they block their EGR systems very badly.

Re: 1KZ-TE PRADO vs 1KD-FTV PRADO

Heads cracking can attributed to quite a number of things. But mainly its a maintenance issue in my experience. IMHO leather is a waste of time. Marks very easy and is cold in winter and sticky in summer. A real pita as well to keep clean and protected. Fabric much nicer. The RV is bottom of range s...

Re: 1KZ-TE PRADO vs 1KD-FTV PRADO

I work for a Toyota dealership so I will tell you 1 simple thing - DON'T GET THE KD!! Upgrade to the 120 series Prado with the KZ engine. Or better still, get the V6 Prado. Cheaper to run, maintain, register and no RUC's to worry about. Nicer engine and tons of grunt. Cheaper to buy than the diesel ...

Re: Offroad lights and WoF

There is nothing, yet, in the regs regarding any LED light bars. But NZTA is looking very closely at them. Australia has just changed their regs for these types of lights and it is most likely that NZTA will follow their direction. In regards to light bars, it depends on the light pattern outputted ...

Batteries are disconnected or a surge protector put on across the battery terminals to prevent electrical spikes from mig welder.

Re: R50 Fuel Lift Pump

Cheers crash
I have got a low pressure pump that flows 80L/hr that I was thinking of using. Reckon that'll be OK? Have been thinking it may be too restrictive.

But I might just fit the aux filter anyway without the pump for now because I can. Piece of mind more than anything else.

I have heard that adding in an electric lift pump can help reduce chances of the electronic injection pump cavitating and failing. I have a set of the SL366's on my R50 Terrano. Very happy so far. Wearing well. Good for the 4wd trips I do in the truck. I'd recommend them to someone on a budget.

You're probably right. Just a generic 4x4 rim. Colour doesn't matter. I painted the rims on the 'Rano as it was anyway. Rusty white didn't appeal that much. Just after same sort of rim as I have on the truck already, to use as spare. I thought someone might just have a single rim floating abou...

There are 3 different sized radiators for the KZN185 Surf (so I found out).
I just had to get 1 for my Brothers truck right before Christmas. Sourced it from A1 Radiators here in CHCH.

Try Autobend. Most exhaust places buy their flanges from them.
