Re: td42 TURBO NOT SPOOLING

I'd try putting a 2" restrictor on the back of the turbo to see if it creates some back pressure to spool the thing earlier. This is the opposite of what I'd be doing, you need as little restriction in the downpipe/exhaust as possible. What you need is more exhaust gases (more fuel) or a small...

What other issues are there with the driveshafts, is it the rubbing on the auto's sump or other stuff as well? How bad is the rust, the floor looks like it needs cutting out in that pick but what about other structural areas? Does the engine run well? Auto shifting alright? What tyres will is come o...

Re: Sliders- weld or bolt

I just finished making these for my LWB GQ over the weekend. I chose bolt on with c-clamp brackets because I didn't want to have WOF issues and I've made similar ones before on my old Landcruiser which worked well. They should be strong enough I hope. I did think about adding bracing from the C-clam...

I installed an Auber EGT gauge where the hazard light button is. I took the button out and put it in a spare slot down by the coin holder, the wiring loom just needs a clip removing and it fits easy. Then I marked the shape using the rubber seal for the gauge and cut out a horizontal hole, a bit of ...

FYI I fitted CP front pads from BNT, only $50 with discount, also full flush of fluid with their 'racing' 300deg C fluid for good measure. After making a raised bracket for the rear brake proportioning valve and adjusting to a point where the front will lock up before the rear (that was fun  )....

FS: GQ - 4" Long travel Shocks and 50mm spacers (WGTN)

Hi All, These came on a Safari I bought about 9 months ago, they are long travel shocks and 50mm spacers. I don't think they have been used very much at all. I took out the spacers so my wife could get into the Safari without jumping  Which meant that the shocks were then too long so I fitted s...

Awesome, thanks for all of the replies. I'm going to make a bracket for the rear proportioning valve and see what sort of difference that makes. Then look at pads. The rotor vents are clear and rotors looks fine but might skim them anyway. Don't know what the pads are since they came on it but plent...

Re: Cert rules mean 33x12.5 tyre won't pass on 15x8 wheel

Just don't cert it for the wheels. Put standard sized wheels and tyres on for the cert and change afterwards. If you didn't have other items requiring cert then you wouldn't take it in just to cert the wheels and tyres would you..... I think technically 33" tyres need a cert due to being more ...

Re: Cert rules mean 33x12.5 tyre won't pass on 15x8 wheel

Just found specs for both Khumo KL71's and BFG KM2's are minimum 8.5"

The certifier is into 4wd's by the sounds of it but is sticking to the rule even though it is a bit silly and he has argued it with the powers that be.

Damn, manufacturer is also 8.5" minimum.

Will have to see if its in option to change to different 33" tyres since I planned to anyway.

Best brake pads for Y60 (need to pass cert test)

Hi guys, My Safari is in for a certification and one thing it failed on was the brake test. Even though I had bled the brakes and even sanded the pads to remove any glazing it still failed the brake test. EDIT: the brake test is quite hard on a big 4wd. 100km to 0km within 4.5sec four times in a row...

Cert rules mean 33x12.5 tyre won't pass on 15x8 wheel

Found out yesterday that the latest rules (well recent at least) specify that 33x12.5 tyres require at last 8.5" wide wheels. Link here: http://www.lvvta.org.nz/documents/infosheets/LVVTA_Info_01-2009_V2_Tyre_Size_to_Wheel_Size_Compatibility_Guide.pdf It doesn't actually list 35's... Which mean...

Hi All, My Safari is in for a Certification and it turns out that pretty much every one of us with 33x12.5 tyre will not pass certification. Reason is that you need a minimum of 8.5" wheels for a 12.5" wide tyre. See here: http://www.lvvta.org.nz/documents/infosheets/LVVTA_Info_01-2009_V2_...

Re: how to adjust turbo

One easy mod to get more flow through your turbo is to use 3m of garden hose, place one end in front of the turbo intake then run the hose through the firewall. Make sure it reaches the drivers seat headrest. Now when you come up to a hill take a deep breath (cold air is better) then blow into the h...
