Re: Suspension links

Also radius arms are now solid 40mm bisalloy with 7/8 hiem threaded into end. Engineer that did mine can do a set excluding bushes and hiem for just over $1k a pair out of 350 plate . Length to suit.
Had then in when I rolled my truck and ripped front wheel off and didn't effect them at all!

Re: Suspension links

Shit! I wish I saw this earlier. DON'T cut 24mm thread onto gq arms for a rodend! I've now broken 2 off them as they are just cast shit steel. The first broke jumpin so accepted that but the second was driving slow and was articulation that caused it. All I'd done was cut 24mm thread and had an adap...

So nice big CVS but a bs diff! Might have to cut down a safari diff for the front then.
Is the 4.9 ratio actually 4.88? Seem to remember it might be?

99 On Pajero drivetrain strength

I've got a few questions for the Pajero experts. I'm looking at starting a new project and wondered whether the IFS / IRS Pajero drivetrain will be up to the strength I need. Basic plan. Lots of power long axles to increase track and travel. (so custom arms front and rear) Not using Pajero just the ...

Re: Weird Safari auto problems

Have had similar problems. Chased it all around to the TPS, bought a brand new one from Nissan (they do do them you just need to give them the part number) and it didn't solve the problem! My problem tuned out to be wiring not the sensors themselves. To fix it I ended up bypassing a whole lot of fac...

Re: vh41 conversion

It's easy. Just control it via the shifter / inhibitor switch and you get get engine braking etc. No need to control over run clutch. Imo tc lockup is for onroad cruising. The engine braking issues are far more related to tcase gearing than the auto slipping.

Re: radius arm mods

Been running gq radius arms with a rod end on the end. Threaded where the bush normally is and put an adapter on there so can run same male rodend as rear 4 link. I've now snapped 2 of these arms so has had 40mm thick bisalloy arms cut. No welding just solid plate water cut to match gq shape with 7/...

Re: vh41 conversion

I ran with a relay based setup to start with and it was ok. Relays were controlled by the inhibitor switch so used shifter to change gears. This is important as the Trans is not fully electronic. I've been using full manual valve body from wholesale automatic in Oz for a long time and it is good, ve...

Re: Roll cage specifications ? ORANZ

Just be careful with double cab options as there is a requirement to have bracing in the main hoop and the main hoop must be close to the drivers seat. Some rules specify the distance behind and others don't. By bracing in the main hoop it means that either within the hoop or the top of the hoop to ...

Yes and no. You want the VH clutches as there are more of them so while swapping the pump and bell housing will work that'll leave you with TD auto and the VH is a better option.

If working properly they are a really good diff and from a durability point of view (of the LSD) last better than the Toyota LSD. Just learn to left foot brake. Gives far more control as engine braking is really a very simple and safe technique. With practice left braking is far better as allows you to vary speed.

I've been a Makita guy forever but my battery drill just died (battery, after 10 years). Not in the trade anymore so looked at what guys I know (in the trade) have been using. The result was pretty clear and that is AEG. At half the price of Makita you get a very similar drill (and 1/4 driver) with ...

Take what you think the ls1 conversion will cost. Now add a bit and then double it! Now compare to working td42. td42 will give plenty of power and reliability for a lot less than any v8 conversion. When I put the turboed vh45de into mine, I did most of the work yet still cost about $14,000! Motor c...

I'm running rb25det coilpack in my vh45. Running wasted spark direct from autronic cdi so no ignitor at all. Coils are actually the same as vh45 just with different silicone. Tested silicone and swapped the good ones.

The valve body I have runs full line pressure all the time and it is pretty harsh on shifts if you're off the gas. At full power it shifts really smooth. It is a full manual VB and has no accumulator piston springs either so a little ore extreme than most.

If it only does it when cold then sounds like glow plugs. Common in GQ's. My one does it and was a faulty relay. Replaced the relay and it then killed a second relay so just live with it. Really bad on a frosty morning but that doesn't happen much up here!

The cable on 24v Safaris betweeb the two batteries is longer enough to fit the batteries behind the seats in a LWB and connect them to the starter. (literally as I've done it) That cable is smaller than 95mm but bigger than 70mm. You use a 95mm crimp and start at 95mm then can almost close a 70mm at...

And don't forget that a 28mm nylon rope is far far stronger than any recovery hook so learn how to use it properly or they are very dangerous. (as opposed to a strap that normally break before the recovery hook)
