Re: what you got?

I agree with Tallsam. There are people out there just watching and waiting for something they like to pop up and with pics of your trucks it only takes one visit to the Post Office and they have your name and address and the list of your firearms you just gave them. PUT YOUR THINKING CAPS ON GUYS. I...

Re: overheating cruiser

The viscous fan may need it oil changed. When the motor is cold the fan should feel harder to turn that when it is at operating temp. In time, the oil's viscouity reduces and when you are trucking down the road the air rushing through the grill can slow the fan down therefor reducing the cooling efe...

Diesel Fuel Additives

Since the introduction of low sulpher diesel, I have been concerned about upper cylinder lubrication in my PZJ70 Cruiser. I have used Castrol EDT as a diesel additive but haven't really noticed a result because I don't have anything to compare with. Does anyone else use fuel additive and if so, what...

Before you install your winch, you may want to think about installing an isolating switch to the positive cable. This isolates the power going to the winch when it's not in use. Very useful when you are dunking it in water while crossing rivers ect therefore reduces the chance of stuffing the electr...

That will depend on the length of the damper. When your wheels are straight, the damper should be half way in. I would work out where half way of the damper is and use that as a guide then bold the brackets on at that length. Once fitted you can double check by turning wheels on both lock to make su...

It won't be a WOF issue as it is only an addition not an alteration and as long as you don't have to cut or modify any of the factor steering mechanisim you will be fine.

Yeah that's what they are designed to do especially when you are running larger tyres. The coil over type steering damper also return your steering to center quicker as well. The reason I didn't notice much of a difference on mine is because it already had a factory one. I guess you will notice a di...

Does the Pajero already have one? if not, forget about it there will be very little benefit in doing so. If there is already one on it they are easy to replace. Just unbolt the old one and fit the new one. I replaced the old steering damper on my 70 series with an Old Man Emu and there was very litt...

Yes well down here we are all of those so we don't have a problem. I do agree about the radios themselves not being up to our 4x4 environment. That's why my personal truck has UHF, AM 26 and 27mhz. That's all we really need around here. The HF is best suited as a base set like they are designed to b...

HF radio is also a good option and just a bit of usless information, if you belong to a Search and Rescue Team, You can use HF (for SAR use) (wink wink) without needing a license.

When the whitebait are running I would use a grey ghost streamer fly but the best all round streamer is an Olive Wooly Bugger these are best in the faster flowing water and in the deeper stuff, use a bead head wooly bugger. In the slow moving shallows I use a Dry fly with short section of tippet to ...

Any rivers around Christchurh are a waste of time. If you take the time to travel north about 100km then you will really enjoy your time. A couple of places you can go are the Hurunui River by the mouth. If you travel north along SH1 towards Cheviot, turn off at Domett and head down Hurunui Mouth Ro...

Yep, Safari are the only way to go.

If you rip off your hood the Safari ones are about $50 cheaper to replace that the Airflow or Airtech.

But I must say, Safaris look better on Landcruisers.....

I see. Well in my opinion, having a high flow, washable, foam air filter and a snorkel combination suits my application and I wouldn't be without it. Paper filters may offer no RESTRICTION but are useless when they are dirty and in past experiences, this would be about every 5-7000km. I guess that c...

Just a little tip with unifilters, once you have applied the filter oil, squeeze out the excess and intall. Then.. after about two weeks, turn the filter up the other way so any excess oil slowly works its way back down to the base of the filter. After about a month, it's time to clean it again (if ...

Yeah, I helped a guy fit one to an 80 series and that came with a kit for the transfer case to switch it out of full time 4x4 as well as the hubs. The Prado is a little different in that you can manually select 4x2 but the front hubs are always in. I'll keep looking and thanks for the reply.

Free wheeling hubs on a 96 Prado

Can anyone help my mate who has just purchased a 96 Prado. It has permantly locked hubs and he would like to know if they can be change to manual locking hubs. The main reason for the change is to improve fuel economy. CAN THIS BE DONE??

Uni filters

I have been running a Uni filter fitted with a Safari snorkle in my 70 series for three years now and I can recomend them. I did some maths and reckon the combination has improved my fuel economy by around 10 precent. It breaths easier which you can hear through the hood of the snorkle and is really...
