Re: Public GPS track databases

I spotted this the other day also and thought it looked like a brilliant idea, then I realised it was only South Island at this stage so didn't really look too far into it, but I agree if thats the price it's probably still a bit steep, probably more than your average club membership. Something alon...

Swivel Ball fluid/seals

Ok so a bit of googling just confused me more. In landrover wisdom of over engineering everything correct me if I'm wrong but it seems to me a series 1 disco has oil in the diff, grease in the bearings, and oil again in the swivel/cv?! Or is the whole lot oil? Previous experience tells me that oil w...

Re: The 3VIL-Disco

Got a few more odds and ends tidied up today, finished putting all the carpets and interior back together so insides all tidy. Still got all the factory rubber mats too just got to give them a clean up and put back. Fixed the broken front diff breather hose. Pulled all the facelift plastics off the ...

Re: The 3VIL-Disco

Well for the few reading, finally got a weekend without rain so had another go. Couldn't get the base idle below about 800rpm without the surging and stalling. Fiddled with heaps of things, replaced the vac hoses checked for air leaks couldn't find anything. But still wasn't getting an O2 reading on...

Re: Disco 1 Front recovery eyes

I remember asking about yours before. I remembered the shape of them but for some reason I thought yours were eyes not hooks bolted on. That's what gave me the idea of using the rear holes for extra strength compared to the store brought plates that use the bumper mounts only. I'll see how we go I i...

Disco 1 Front recovery eyes

So with the lack of easy places to mount anything on the front of a Disco 1 and the price of aftermarket options, I was thinking I'd just knock something similar up myself. Some 60x12 flat bar with a shackle hole in the end bolted to the 2 holes that hold the bumper on same as all the aftermarket st...

Re: The 3VIL-Disco

Yes idle valve seems to be the common problem with these. Especially since its idles fine with it unplugged. Apparently it's connected to the speed sensor also to provided deceleration control, but since the speedo works properly and it does it even if you haven't moved I think we can rule that out....

Re: The 3VIL-Disco

Well a few productive evenings in the cold. Got my RoverGauge cable working, confirmed old MAF was shot, put new one in and confirmed that was working ok. Got carried away and finished putting the last spring in so I could go for a quick drive. Now it looks like this: https://lh3.googleusercontent.c...

Re: Rovergauge Cable

Many thanks to phaedrus this simple trick worked. Cable now works just fine. FyI this was the cheapest of cheap $5 ftdi interfaces and it works just fine for this purpose with a couple of components from the junk pile. Confirmed what I already knew no output from afm. New afm fitted and working. Now...

Re: Rovergauge Cable

Thanks for that phaedrus exactly the info I was looking for. I knew it was a fairly simple fix (looking at how they describe how the signal ends up inverted inside the 14CUX and thinking surely I could just do something similar to invert it back again). Might have to break out the breadboard and hav...

Re: The 3VIL-Disco

Yup will hopefully source another one during the week. On a brighter note much more productive today. Rear springs all swapped, and one side of the front done before it started spitting with rain and the wind got up. Managed to snap a quick if awkward angled photo thats hard to tell. I have a sneaki...

Re: Rovergauge Cable

On that note, after a bit of playing around it appears the chip is indeed genuine, had to force install the drivers every time, turns out it was set to a custom VID/PID to restrict it to the original 'BMWScanner' driver, but successfully reprogrammed the chip back to the standard FTDI settings along...

Re: Rovergauge Cable

yes couldnt configure for inverted RX or change any settings as the chip is read only. i suppose I could hardware invert it, but its been a while too and I'm lazy these days haha. For a $6 board I'm not suprised to be honest. I tried asking Jaycar if their boards are genuine at $30 I would expect th...

Re: The 3VIL-Disco

Well not very productive so far. Was planning on having a diagnostic cable made up to check the engine out, turns out as I suspected the cheap USB-serial adapter I brought is a fake copy chip, and can't be reprogrammed to read the non-standard serial output of the Rover diagnostic port, so back to d...

Re: Rovergauge Cable

That said, it turns out not too surprisingly the cheap boards on trademe are fake FTDI chips.. for normal purposes this is probably fine, but since we need to configure them to read an inverted RX line, they are no good as of course the fake chips are write protected so changing the config is not po...

Re: The 3VIL-Disco

No looking at the giant 4 core radiator I imagine that would've been an arm aNd or leg by itself. There's a few other bits too that I can't remember right now. It's actually pretty tidy under all the crap. Just need to make up a cable to get some readings off the ecu and work out why it's overfuelin...

That looks fairly new, the previous owner spent a bucket load on the motor I think the workshop must've seen them coming I hate to think what the bills were compared to what they sold it for. While I don't have receipts most of it is fairly obviously new. New injectors new cam lifters (evidenced by ...

Well after a messy divorce and not having a 4by for a few years I'm finally getting back into it again, so figured I might as well start a build thread for the few of us still lurking around on the forums :) I'd decided I needed a 4by again so had been browsing around Trademe and Facebook for some t...

Rovergauge Cable

Has anybody got/made a rovergauge cable recently? It would seem to be an extremely useful tool for a rover v8 but the recommended usb cable to use are still over 50bux delivered. Wondering if the much more cheaply available ftdi usb-serial converters intended for programming ardueno (sp? ) style boa...

Re: Welded on towbar?

That was my thought too I didn't think it had ever been legal. There was a heavy power cable hooked up there too like for electric brakes so it was obviously done to tow something with a bit of weight in it. Keep forgetting to grab the other folders out of it and see if there's anything in there eve...

Yes do share if anyone's had any luck :) mine drinks like an alcoholic fish. Seems you might as well drive it with a heavy right foot as it doesn't make much difference. Haven't had chance to fiddle with it much yet apart from giving the afm a good clean out

Well the forum seems a bit quiet these days but surely a few of us are still lurking around in the shadows  Has anyone ever encountered a welded on towbar? Hey bro, sorry havent been on here for ages. Did you ever get it running right?.. its very interesting to note that I gave up on mine as I had the exact same issue! it would run mint when cold and as soon as some temp sensor kicked on it was a gutless pig and would barely go up a hill. Unfortunately...

Kind of related and I should bloody know this but having a mental blank it's been a while since I had a 4by and researched all this stuff.

But are the qd32eti pumps fussy about having their matched ecu like a ZD30 or can you just swap pumps

Anyone have any interest in my 99 facelift Terrano? Got my car back from my ex wife, and just dont have the time to sort this truck out, its not getting used, and need it gone as moving soon. 99 facelift shape Terrano Auto, converted to QD32ETI. 283ish ks on chassis, 190 on engine. Re: FS: SJ413 Club Truck/Bush Toy

Will see if I have any more pics later. Rear flex is near standard due to the standard shocks, increasing the length of those will improve it. Rear diff is welded so it will still move even if it lifts a wheel, although the front more than makes up for it. Unfortunately the heater and wipers were al...
