Have a mate who is looking for another truck and would like a 2.8T Bighorn in good sound and tidy condition - not too many ks. Has to be a good straight one - not a hack.
If anyone knows of one I'd be pleased to hear about it.
Cheers Mike.

Re: 05 Rodeo - motor origins?
The 3.0 motor to avoid is not the 4JH1 - it is the 4JX1. Not, from memory, a motor put into the isuzus brought into NZ by Isuzu here, but many trucks came in with this motor as Jap imports. It is a real dud which gave all sorts of sensor problems, and can confirm diesel shops and even isuzu agents o...

Re: Marlin XS7 308 f/s
Yes its a very good 308 but I've decided to go with a 243 to cover all the game on two particular stations. Can do the lot with just the one rifle and one round - likely the 95gr spitzer boat-tail load. Has to cover long range hares/bunnies, plus occasional pigs, goats and deer. And a few wallabies ...

Marlin XS7 308 f/s
Bought this rifle recently but am really after a 243 for mixed long range varminting and deer etc. Near new unit fired maybe 40 rounds. Few marks on synthetic stock but action and barrel perfect. Very accurate with nice smooth action. This model comes out standard with fluted bolt, recessed target c...

Kumho KL71 32s
A friend has a couple of KL71 Kumho 32x11.5 muds for his truck and needs to find another pair. Does anyone know where he can get two more. Not such a common size as 33x12.5s.
Thanks Mike.

Re: Nankang mudstars - any good?
Well - final report on my set of N889 Nankang Mudtars. Just sold my lwb truck and can confirm the 33" mudgrips had done 67,000ks and were at about 6.5mms tread left. If I had run them down to legal 1.5mm tread, realistic mileage estimate 100,000ks. My decision from 4 years Mudstar use on and of...

Selling my Isuzu 4x4 hunter/club truck - a beauty
Am selling my '88 2.8 turbo LWB Isuzu - and its an absolute beauty. Fully set up for mod club offroading with 4" lift, tightened LSD, 33s, white spokes, tuned motor, bigbore, snorkel, quick release sway bars and other developments, and for hunting has rear soft top section professionally fitted...

Re: Nankang mudstars - any good?
A progress report on the 33" Nankang N889 Mudstars on my lwb bighorn. They have now done just over 60,000ks and have about 6.5mm tread depth left of 15.5m new. Might run these out, and on present performance mileage expectation will be 90,000-100,000ks from a set. They have performed very well ...

Re: best place/cheapest for nankangs n889s in chch?
What price now for a set of mudstar 32s - anyone know who has a good deal in Chch? Friend needs a set of 5.
Alternatively a good set of 31 muds might do.
Thanks.

Re: The 2.8 vs 3.1 Bighorn debate....
Have driven the 2.8s for about 10 years now as both club trucks and daily drivers - about 200,000ks and 300+ off road tracks. Very good truck. Drivetrain is tough as nails and motors do big ks if you do the maintenance every 5000ks. This is one of the best diesels out of Japan and my current one run...

Mudstar prices?
Have a mate wanting to buy some 32" N889 mudstars but seems prices have gone up in last week or two. Does anyone know where there are still good deals on prices for the 32s? Were available here in Chch recently for $225 per tyre.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Nankang mudstars - any good?
Offroading you've got to be continually on the watch for sharp rocks and with a bit of care you avoid most all of them. These mudstars were a bit of a punt for me, but after 50,000ks I'm absolutely impressed. Darn good tyre and would not move away from them - especially at the crazy prices they some...

Another progress report on mileage and performance from the Nankang N889 Mudstars. Have been running them for nearly 2 years now and they have proved a very good all-purpose mudgrip. Re: Diff ratios for Bighorn
Alot of mus are 4.56, and so are some of the wide body 'R' spec 2.8 bighorns from 87-92. However most 2.8 bighorns are in fact 4.31. Have owned a couple and worked on more and all 4.3s. The idea to put in a tightened lsd is a good one. Have used both air and autolockers in various combinations in of...

Re: 1989 Bighorn, What's the Deal?
Hello Octanepwr Yes good truck. With 50m body lift you do not have to play with steering shaft, but you do have to alter gear slot or kink stick. The radiator does need to be dropped - from memory but not a big job. Made our own shackles out of 10m thick plate, and you need to add 100m extra to get ...

Re: Nankang mudstars - any good?
Update on performance of the Nankang N889 Mudstar muds. Just notching up 40,000ks now and tread is still 9.5mm from original 15.5 tread depth. That's less than half wear for 40ks and on a lwb truck. Exceptional wear for any mudgrip let alone a Taiwan cheapie. If you keep right tyre pressures to stop...

He specifically wants one with the 2.8T motor. And I think he plans to use this one as a runabout more than for off-roading.

Wanted 1987-92 lwb Isuzu Bighorn
I know of a chap looking for one of the above - the 4JB1 2.8 lwb model.
Needs to be in sound and tidy condition rather than a bush basher, and have low to moderate ks. Canterbury area or not too far afield.
Thanks, Mike 03 322 4570.
