The alloy wheels taken off, and my wife started polishing them up, and a set of steelies fitted, the alloy wheels will have all terrain tyres fitted, and the steelies will b...

Returning to the muddy fold.....
Well, it has been a while, after selling our 1985 BJ73 a few years back  , and then missing the freedom it offered us  , we have come back to the sport/pastime, this time with something different, a BJ40...yeah, an oldie, but a goodie, well, we think so any way. It's going to take a bit t...

Re: Where is Moonhopper now.....
No problem, I will work out when I can come down that suits us both, and we can go from there. On-board air is the best option too, it saves the weight of a dive tank, something I couldn't convince Hamish of. Hamish is the bloke who owned it when I set the air system up. It really isn't that hard to...

OK, cheers, no promises though. The overnight part won't be happening....got to feed critters, but may make it down Sunday, and I'm taking a stab in the dark and would need my good mud tyres.........duh.

I had a hand in setting up the air system to raise and lower the suspension on Moon Hopper a coupla years back, and I understand someone here owns it now. If you want a hand to get this up and running again, let me know.

Re: Help Me Make the Perfect Cruiser
I ran Maxxis Buckshot Mudders and got 40,000 km from them, and they were ok off road, when deflated to 15psi, but the newer tyres i have, Maxxis Bighorn are a definate improvement, and have heard of a truck getting 50,000km on them. Never seen the creepy crawler, but have heard good things about them.

Re: steel winch cable
Having made and sold wire ropes, I have found the following: 1/Do not go for galvinised, as the layer of galv is included in the overall diameter, and before anyone says it is minimal, consider every strand has a layer on it, so it does add up, and it does make a difference, thats why logging crews ...

Re: good quality tow hooks
There are some weird ideas out there.......(generally) a cap bolt has a higher tensile strength than a bolt, depending on bolts rating, and I cannot immediately remember the highest bolt rating off the top of my head, also, the strength of the nut does not depend on how much thread protrudes through...

Why do they have to.....
I have a rant.....why the hell do workshops feel it is necissary to silicone parts to seal them rather than fit a gasket???? It frustrates the crap out of me. Dammit, it doesn't take that much longer to make a gasket, and silicone can be a bitch to remove, plus from my experience with hydraulics, it...

Has anyone got any trips planned around the central area?
If not, I would be willing to take a few trucks to Ernies place, just north of Wanganui.
Post below, and we can see what happens.

Went for a drive up around the power project intakes and tunnels on the Friday, as per Andy Cocroft's book, then went up the Tokokino skifield, as far as the locked gate, could have gone around it as many others have, but thought it wiser to respect the gate. 8) Saturday went to wellies to pick up n...
