Re: Jalopy V2.0

Hi Jafa
Life is still good in Nelson. We haven't done any 4 wheeling since Xmas at Westport . When I saw Mike was organising a Westcoast trip for Easter 2017 I thought it would be a good opportunity to catch up with old faces I haven't seen for a while .

All the best

Re: Jalopy V2.0

Hi Jaffa. Good to see V2 and it looks good. I know with the offroaders a rear engine works well so I can't see why it wouldn't work in V2. With the V8 the hilux diffs mightn't be strong enough with the extra traction on the rear wheels because of the extra weight. Looking forward to the finished pro...

Re: bulletproof Chasm track re opened

I have found 2 old photos from the 90s today that show how huge amounts of water changes things on the Chasm track . Originally this bridge across the Clarke was the start of the track instead of the river in the valley we use today. A huge flood took one third of this bridge first but we still used...

Re: bulletproof Chasm track re opened

Did the Chasm from Snowy Rd south to Waipuna Rd at QBW. Never done it that way before.... 6 trucks no issues other than a broken J arm on a Hilux. Grey was at about 1500mm on the gauge at Waipuna which put it about halfway up the door and dipping the headlights occasionally. We started nice and ear...

Re: where is slab hut track

Heading towards Ikamatua, it's on the left about 500m before the Slab Hut DOC Camping Area which is signposted. The start of the track goes into a small shingle pit area, and up a very scratchy bit of track to an open area, then continues from the left end of the clearing. It gets VERY knarly with ...

Because this track changes so much, It is good to see trip reports coming in to keep us up to date with current conditions. The quickest I have done the track is a bit over 2 hrs and the longest is with North Canterbury at around 14 hrs so a person has to be prepared for anything. PS What other trac...

I am trying to find the owner of a 1958 series 2 that was on Trade me about 3 years ago in the Christchurch area. When we went in on the recce trip 9 years ago to open up the reserve we stayed at the Willows which was a good camp site.I notice it is not drawn on the map as a camp site. There seems to be a mentality to build all off road trucks like a hummer to stand an atom bomb. This adds heaps of weight which makes them less capable. Trial trucks do the exact opposite and try and reduce weight.

I think you will find the bottom of the pump is the same on both and the tops are interchangable on 2L, 2LTE , 3L etc

Go down to Heslops and ask them in the Diesel pump overhaul dept

A lot of winching as the ruts are very deep and even 36 simex's will not touch the bottom. http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm283/hilux2...
