Re: PTO shear pins
A mate & I are looking at getting rid of the shear pins out of our setups totally. We're looking at putting a torque limiting clutch "in-line" with the driveshaft. We were originally looking at a ball detent clutch, but the AUD$600+ price tag scared me a bit.. :o So, we're back looking...

Re: Hella Spotlights
I have to agree with Warren, I bought a pair of Hella 3000's off trademe for $200, modded the case a little with a drill, bunged in an HID kit ($200 from Autokraft), and they are brilliant setups, bright as fawk, and a nice white light, not yellow like the headlights. So for $400 I have a nice HID ...

Re: Clearing up the confusion on radios....
I have that unit, is there anything specifc you want to know. Its a UHF unit = PRS. Works great. Channel 23 is blocked for transmission, because its an emergency channel in Australia. Otherwise, been a wonderful piece for over a year now. Um, not quite. Channel's 22 & 23 are data only channels ...

Re: 25th -26th july
On my GQ: Changed the supposedly 4" springs in the front for some actual 4" springs. Funny, it sits about an inch and a half lower. I was a bit suss on those springs when I bought them. At least it sits level now instead of nose high. Took the ratty, kinked old cable off the PTO win...

Re: This is very serious topic
welcome to our world, we have the same but called a cert, someone rubber stamps what you've done and takes $300 off you for it Just in case it was missed: There can only be 50mm of lift (total - tyres/spring/body) if you still wish to use the car on the road. Up to 50mm of lift must be engineered (...

Re: Installing PTO winch(pics up)
what vehicle does the thomas whinch come off? AFAIK, it's just an aftermarket winch. They have different PTO adapters to suit different gearboxes/transfer cases. has that one had the drum widened or is that std? I don't think so. It doesn't look like it has. Having said that, a mate's got one and i...

http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/vv177/tel1nz/Truck-TubeWinchBar2008-07-06c.jpg How do you go with the rope bunching up to one side if you aren't able to pull straight with that much rope on the drum? :? I've got a Thomas PTO winch on mine, not a genuine Nissan one, but here's some pics of how it...

Re: G'day..
Quick question about the rooftop tent (thinking of heading down this road), whats she like in the wind? I haven't had a chance to look at one in person yet but I'd imagine you'd get a fair bit of swaying going on having that much weight up that high? How would you rate it against a bed setup inside...

I'm back! Been busy busy, so haven't really had time to keep up.. Since my last post we've had the "silly season", been fighting bushfires, got married in March and for the honeymoon we went for a 4 week drive out into the middle of Oz (lotsa pics in > this < thread), and work's bee...

G'day..
Hi, I'm Macca, from over the ditch in Melbourne, Aus.. Currently driving a 1990 GQ Patrol with a few bits and pieces extra. Joined up looking for more information on PTO winches as no-one really seems to use them in Oz, and a lot of you mob seem to! I've been reading a lot over the last couple of we...
