Re: Muds for GQ LWB Patrol

One that has good performance in not only all types of mud but pea shingle, snow and over rock. Also how much wear you'll get sh...

Re: Rollover Piano Flat
Someone else died in about the same spot about 3 years later. The local council did major repairs to the track about 3 or 4 years ago but it is becoming dicey again. The chap that died was not on the track, he was taking a short cut in the wet and that is where he went wrong. Steep terrain + clay +...

Re: Australia. Sure, why not????
yep WAA line mate. I have just read a trip report from the Simpson on the Patrol forum...Frenchline is at it's worst. If you type "simpson desert" into google you'll come up with a lot of stuff that you have to sort thru and it will give you a good feel for past and current conditions. Mt ...

Re: Australia. Sure, why not????
Give the frenchline across the simpson a miss. everyone takes it, it's rough and boring. If you take the southern tracks you will have less dickheads to deal with, better things to look at and smoother roads. Looks like a good trip DB. I'm heading out that way myself next winter doing a big triangle...

Re: Macaulay river crossing
You have to cross the channel a number of times from memory to get to the hut. If you follow the rough line of the track should find the shallowest crossings. I do remember some depth to some especially after rain and that's the issue, if it rains and you have no snorkel it may be dicey coming out a...

you can get an exhaust putty called thermosteel and it is designed for fixing the cracks in exhausts. It will last a while but welding is a better fix.

I'd tlak with the Otago Landrover owners club, I reckon they would have a bit of an idea. Otherwise maybe try and contact ken sibley (author of 4wd books in NZ). He would know for sure and is a wealth of knowledge.

Re: Australia. Sure, why not????
just about all states in australia only allow a total of 75mm lift made up from tyres, springs and body lift. Most of us just run a 2" lift with 33's=75mm. Of late they have been coming down hard on 4wds in some states. I'm up in Lismore mate, on ya way nrth from sydney. happy to take you thru ...

Yep, the rock face of petrol hill is getting longer and more of an acute angle from the bottom from being dug up by tyres. Those ruts into slab hut arent too bad really. As for proper 4wheeling, your right in one perspective, I enjoy it most on the Westcoast. The parks over here can be quite challen...

Got permissions for the mine trip and over into the Waitahu, so I'll take that on either Sat or Sun (gotta be the weekend). If the weather's as wet as it's supposed to be the river will be pretty dodgy to cross so exiting via the Montogomery's track will be a no-go except for deep/swift-water capab...
