Re: Hilux knuckle preload or lack there of

I can only speak from my cruisers knuckles. if the steering arm wont fully seat then there might be a lip or something stopping it from fully sliding down the hole in the top....(or the bottom) Mine would fully slide home with no shims before assy... Once on the truck with no shims it could fully be...

Does it run a Dual mass flywheel. They can fail and cause movement in the clutch area... Personally never felt what one is like when it fails or is about to fail..

Re: KZJ78 Playdoh Bob and other stuff

Been a bit quiet on the forums lately so thought I would update my build. Well basically its finished, got cert and now I am fine tuning it. I originally had a read mount radiator, worked fine off road but I had troubles keeping her cool on road, the fans pretty much stayed on all the time. My conce...

Re: 1KZ torque Lock up Wiring.

The lockup uses various sensors to decide when to lock.... TPS, water temp, speed.... And looks for the brake pedal switch to unlock... so check that this isn't playing up and cancelling the ecu lock up.... Had a mate whos brakes would come on randomly without pushing pedal.... had a dodgy switch. S...

Ok some numbers for you. Ignore the fact I have grabbed an image of a manual 80 series trans... It just shows a good overview of where I measured from... The distance between the two mating faces of the transfercase drive shaft flanges is the 400mm dimention... The 545 measurement is from the joint ...

yes from my observations the 1UZ auto has a longer output shaft so will need either swapping or cutting down to accept the adaptor / extention housing from a factory auto / split transfercase.
Phil Clarke at Force 4 runs the 1UZ in his Prado.... he would have some good insights for you.

I have a KZJ78 running a PTO winch with the auto A343F. I can get you some measurements later today.... Nice work, have you tested the new brake yet?
I take it you checked the wiring and the solenoid to confirm its not a power supply issue to the motor causing it to stall?

But love the Kiwi ingenuity !

The fault you describe could be the ECU starting to play up. As the capacitors leak and cause all sorts of issues as they age. Either the Auto starts to play up or engine...Or both. There are only a few triggers that turn off the Torque Lock... Brakes applied, Temp too cold (sensor could be playing ...

The trans temp warning light comes on around 120 C. Typical normal running temp is about 55 to 60C but this varies depending on load etc etc. The biggest heat generator is the torque converter... Have a Hd tow spec Torque converter coming in from Aussie. Apparently the early A340 used negative pitched vanes in turbine. Modern ones used in the likes of the Hilux D4D engines have positive pitched vanes. So the lads in Aussie are putting together one with those parts but with bigger lockup clut...
