Re: Easy 3 link front diff patrol
I cant see it properly in the pic but Im hoping youve welded a crush tube into the chassis so the bolt runs thru it rather than welding a bolt to the chassis? How much does the pinnion angle change during suspension travel/cycling? I thought about doing this with my last truck but never got that far...

Only difference is the idler shaft size and manual or vacuum activated 4wd selector, early 60s had 34mm shaft and manual linkages, while the later 60s and 70s had 38mm idler shafts and vac operated 4wd selector. I believe 85 was the changeover year as well.

Re: FJ62 1988 5 Speed gearbox rebuild help
It will be a h55f box for sure, I rebuilt mine and found the terrain tamer kits for the box and transfer to be the cheapest (about $850 for both gearbox and transfer kits)but still had all seals bearings and boots needed. Are you 100% that the whine is coming from the box and not something else like...

Shrouded always, then the fan is forced to draw air thru the radiator, without a shroud it will pull air from around the rad, or whatever gives the least resistance, greatly reducing it's efficiency

Yes that's what I was talking about, I put mine back in to keep the grease in the kingpin bearings but drilled 4 small holes in them to let some grease into the swivel hub

The king pin plates can easily be drilled an tapped for a small grease nipples like this: http://i851.photobucket.com/albums/ab74/Warren_fakey/70%20series/frontend004.jpg there are plastic seals under the king pins that i drilled 4 small holes in to let the excess grease into the swivel hub

Kings are popular this side of the ditch fair bit pricier than Fox tho by the sounds of it. Fox seems to be well supported in NZ.

I mean that its a pretty nice ute as it is but I think you'd end up spending the same amount of money as the ute is worth getting it repowered

Have you looked at locktup4x4.com.au the stock those gears for patrols. Shipping is free within oz not sure on freight to NZ tho. Rugged rocks offroad in the states also list the same nitro gears for patrols.

How did you measure for shocks? Did you just measure full droop to compression? Or did you flex test it with no shocks in it?

I wonder if a gq patrol pitman arm would fit onto the d21 steering box? If the draglink angle is severe enough to warrant bending the draglink to compensate, I'd be looking for a way to fit the ball joint on the bottom of the pitman arm. If you cant find a bolt on one, nother option may be get the D...

Can't say Ive done one but, Id rather flip a toy axle than use a POS jeep axle If I was to sas a terrano Id do what youve done and use the trol transfer case (probably the whole gearbox) and a more readily available/cheaper axle than a dana 30

Dana 30 = yuck  Surely youd be converting to a solid axle for better durability and reliability why put jeep parts in there? If youre really set on using the factory transfercase I think you'd get far more reliability out of a flipped hilux or 60 series diff. Theyre easy to get parts for in Nz ...

Theyve been classed as fire arms for years, I wasnt aware of the difference for compressed air powered spud guns tho. Its not hard to see why tho, the spud gun in the video below is built to look like a big stainless revolver. I fired a potato in two pieces through the windscreen of a ford telstar f...

If you want to stiffen them up I'd weld a piece of flat bar or box section in between the two plates. I don't think a welded pin would last very long before the weld cracked
