Re: anyone been up mount greenland lately

The miners only had an exploration permit and when we went up last year they had a couple of big excavators and a skid mounted screen up there just before grey bog. They apparently left a few weeks before our most recent visit ( mentioned above). Not sure if they will apply for or if they have been ...

Re: anyone been up mount greenland lately

Went up 3 weeks ago. It's in the best condition I've seen it for years right now. The miners have graded the track to just past the grey bog which is probably halfway up. All the difficult stuff at the start is gone and barely reconisable now. However it's still a good drive and worth a visit. The b...

We did Liverpool bills last queens bithday and went right through from Ford at dunganville and up steep exit to foresrty road at Eastern end. No log jambs then but took a wrong turn up a dead end side Creek and had to double back.

When were you there drive-it?

Re: Mace town track vs std 90 series prado

I have done it in wifes stock standard 90 series prado, no problem at all. The track crosses the river about 17 times in 22km from memory but all easy crossings when river level is normal and a bit of sense. At some crossings the best (shallowest and least rocky) route is not straight accross but th...

Re: 24 Spline Front Diff an Axles

Just bear in mind that there is no factory halfshaft the will mate a 24 spline diff to your AEU2522 cvs (24 spline inner 23 spline outer end). You will have to go ashcroft/kam/howat for them. The factory 24 spline front halfshaft necks down just as small as the 10 spline on the cv end. It is 32 spli...

Re: Lc electric winch

U need 3 jump leads to bench test. 1 for earth then positive to f1 or f2 (one of the two studs next to each other) and use 3rd lead to join the two unused studs (a and the unused f stud). Hope that makes sense.

Moving positive from f1to f2 and moving link changes direction.

For what its worth I agree with 2DrDisco above... I considered both options and was quite open to the idea of fitting Nissan or Toyo bits. However, I ended up upgrading steadily over a couple of years as and when I could afford with no cert required. Other considerations at the time were: I didn't w...

Re: NO NAME RD

The north half from Marsden to where it crosses over Cape Terrace Rd is easily doable in a standard Ute.
The southern part down across the Greenstone is quite a bit rougher and can have deep water if the rivers are up. Probably not advisable for a stock Ute but I'm sure it has been done ;0)

Hi Muddy, We (SINDA) did a fairly major refurb of the hut back in feb. New roof, long-drop, fire wood store and cleared all the gorse around the hut. We went back earlier this month and gave the hut a coat of paint and a rain water tank and some new plumbing. Its looking pretty good now. We also did...

Re: Napoleon Hill / Mt Greenland

Did Mt Greenland 2 weeks ago. Left car park in Ross at 7.30am as we thought it would be a battle but were on summit at 9.30am and that included dealing to a minor electrical fire on an 80 and cutting 2 trees out of the way ;0) That said it was drier than when we did it last feb. Even grey bogs were ...

Re: Transfer box won't seem to go into High?

If it goes into high diff lock then it's just a matter of pulling the stick straight across and out of diff lock. Hard to describe but there are no gate on the selector like a normal gearbox ie you don't have to follow the H pattern like you would expect. You can move the stick left and right (diff ...

Re: Rear Mounted Batteries

Hi Sam, I had a quick look at Superwinch specs, 12.5 Talon is 530amps full load (compared to my EP9 at 350amps full load). Add another 20amps or so for other running loads and you would be starting to get near the limits of 70mm cable. The site below shows a good range of specs and duty cycles which...

Re: Rear Mounted Batteries

Hi Sam, Good to hear your making progress. It's unlikely that your gonna want to winch and start your engine at the same time so that reduces the size a bit. My rover has batts under passenger seat (factory location) and I have a 70mm to a common stud in engine bay which powers everything including ...

The good news is that the switch for the light is activated directly by the movement of locking dog in the transfer box (not the position of the lever), so it indicates the actual status of the diff lock (unless bulb is blown or wire has fallen off the switch etc). The switch is in the top near wher...

Thanks Richard, the windfall was in pockets just far enough apart to have put the saws away etc then drive 2 mins and all out again. There were probably 3 pockets north of the chasm. Then we met some hunters who said we would find 3 more between the chasm and the Clarke but it was probably more like...

Did the Chasm from Snowy Rd south to Waipuna Rd at QBW. Never done it that way before.... 6 trucks no issues other than a broken J arm on a Hilux. Grey was at about 1500mm on the gauge at Waipuna which put it about halfway up the door and dipping the headlights occasionally. We started nice and earl...

Sorry to say but you have probably the worst cv/shaft combo that ever left the factory. Early rover shafts were 10spline (approx 25mm dia) diff end and 23spline cv end (approx 32mm dia) Interim (yours) shafts were 10/32 spline (approx 25mm dia both ends) Later shafts were 24spline diff end (approx32...

Should have said that the 285/85 is a crossply. 285/75 sport is a radial but they have same pattern. The 85 is under light truck on the silverstone website and not with all the other mt117s in 4wd tyres section.
