Cool work mate!
Out of interest do you have screen capture of the stress points? This is more important than displacement.
Design looks good though, and I also love CAD/CAM/FEA. I get to play with our work software to build highspeed centrifugal and roots style superchargers.

Re: supercharger oil
Yep, no idea why toyota specified such a silly oil (and price) for the superchargers, it is nothing but a basic helical spur gear (same as what is in a manual trans) Pretty much any engine/gearbox oil will work fine.

I've always had real good treatment from the guys at "Just Rust" in Tawa, did a cheap good job for my old bush hack.

Would be a mint start to a decent offroad wagon. It's been sweet for me.
Pretty flexible on price

Re: 1st gear popping out
The bulkhead ring in the gearbox is probably quite worn, or the selector pins have worn on the shaft and aren't engaging first gear enough. Bad news is it will probably have to come apart to fix it, so easy way is to just hold the lever in gear while you're in first, It wont wreck anything in the sh...

Re: exhaust size for 2.5 turbo diesel
2.5 from the dump will be best. Biggest gain will probably be from making a new dump pipe as they are usually the restrictors. Going 3" to 2.5" is counter intuitive. As the exhaust gas temperature reduces so does it's flow rate (hence people heat wrapping their headers to keep temps and fl...

Re: Terrano td27 turbo fails dramatically...
I have a question for those in the know, how does a soft ally blade score a hard steel bore? Few different reasons for the aluminum to wear on a steel bore, the main one being is that ally work hardens much like stainless steel and under the sort of circumstances such as being wedged in between a p...

Re: Terrano td27 turbo fails dramatically...
99% chance any bits that went through are already out the exhaust.
Personally I would not waste my time pulling the head, just put the new turbo on and go for gold. Chances are if the chunks were going to cause damage, it would have already happened so you wont gain much by pulling the head.

Re: Glow Plug and timers
Also simple solution if your motor is in good condition is just to put a push button in. Hold for 10secs then fire up. Pajeros are chronic for shitting the glow ecu (yep it has its own computer!) so a lot of guys put manual switches in, just make sure you only put a push and hold type switch in othe...

Re: trailer axle question
Yeah sounds like the duratorques are worn out or bent.
Also how much weight is on the draw bar? anywhere from 30kg up to 80kg is ok depending on your load and tow vehicle.
Try bump the tire pressures up quite high 40+ psi and then check the weight on the draw bar, may help out.
Cheers,
-Glen

Yes they are certainly not the strongest front end out there, but in saying that it is like anything you have to drive to your vehicle. It -Looks- the same the D21 Terrano gear but maybe different internals for the diff. If it is the same, the front diffs can blow under extreem abuse, but you have t...

Re: trailer axle question
As mentioned, with duratorques is even more important that on a leaf sprung trailer to keep the trailer level as there is no rocker arm to keep the loading on each axle even. DuraTorques are great for space and suspension units but shithouse for maintaining wheel track geometry when loaded due to th...

Costal Fasteners out in Porirua have them or can get them overnight, I know as this is where I sourced mine for when I did the body lift on my Terrano.

You'll love the lightened flywheel. I took about 5kg off mine, made it a different truck to drive. Still cant get over how tough the motors are. When I had twin batterys setup for winching, I used the VSR as the charge control unit so that it would always look after the starting battery before the Acc battery, then I had a isolator switch with some grunty cables to link both up when winching. They can be useful to prevent compressor surge if running high boost levels as well as decrease spool time between gear shifts.
Not all BOV have to go PSSSH you can vent them back into the air box where they are almost silent... but we all know ya want the PSSSH

Horses for courses. An auto box setup for on road use (as in from factory) will definitely have some big compromises when it comes time to bush bash. A auto with selectable gears and torque converter lock up switch would be the best off road IMHO, cant stall it and gives you an extra foot for brakes...

Only go as high as you have to. The biggest improvements to my Terrano was the body lift which gave me a better approach and departure angle and extended shocks all round with some "mods" to the Ifs to get a bit more flex out of it. http://www.imagebam.com/image/9ca53e146421054 That was wi...
