Re: hydraulic winch
I've done this a few times before. Once with original land rover pto pump and worm winch which was brilliant. Expensive even second hand.
Also used maxi-drive pto pump into a low mount which was ok but a lot slower.
Prefer electric now. Easier and cheaper and I do shinny 4x4'ing now.

Here's what I did a while back, 3.5 to 5L Lit up all fours on the 32"'s but not on the 33's. http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/~bdaley/rp.htm Bit extreme and required lots of other bits in the drive train to be uprated. Used a heap of fuel as well! Thats interesting, did the block require machi...

Re: Defender 8274 winch mount
why not centre mount it in the chassis (possibly have to box over it in the tub) My idea of ideal would be to keep that big bit of change out of sight, face it backwards in in the chassis run the line through some alloy fairleads(if synthetic) to a snatch block shackled past a rear fairlead to your...

Re: Defender 8274 winch mount
Hi With a 8274 if you don't recess it into the grill it will stick out a fair way and without mounting it up fairly high it will affect your approach angle. I spent a fair bit of time measuring and mocking up before settling on a low mount. However I built the bar to take both if I decide to fit th...

Defender 8274 winch mount
I have a high mount 8274 winch which I rebuilt with a giggle-pin main shaft and big motor etc and would like to use it on my new defender 90. Question is how to mount this rather large object. Not wanting to check it into the grill either. Like the look of the below bar and could I could actually bu...

Finally, my first brand new car! 6th rover.
MTR muds on it, a snorkel is being fitted by the stealers, 8274 with gigglepin internals is on the bench - just need to work out a bumper and steering guard.

Even a series LR should not break in that soft stuff. Probably damaged the diff before this.

Hi all, I am currently looking at purchasing http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=472299424 Is there any more economical engine that would bolt straight in with a 5 speed mated to it? What are these 3.5 rovers like on fuel? Do you think the 4 speed will hold up? and is there anything I s...

All ready to assist any poor stuck Toyoya  looks good, any issues with airbags and stuff? Not really, the mount just bolted into the original internal bumper mounting points. It also has bolts acting as cross pins running behind the mount points. The crumple zone will be affected but I can't s...

Used part of my holidays to fit a Superwinch Talon 12.5. It's on a Devon hidden winch bracket with the OTT rings. http://www.teltecnz.co.nz/9.jpg Used 50mm2 cable with Optima yellow top and dual charge doofer. Battery feed runs through an isolator solenoid. http://www.teltecnz.co.nz/2.jpg All fits n...

Devon 4x4. Price is in UK pounds. Freight is silly. About 1700NZD landed without the bloodsucking government lot getting their hands on it first. The plate clips onto it hiding the slot. http://www.devon4x4.com/index2.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.view_images&product_id=37293&image...

I woke up around 2am and couldn't sleep after my 3 1/2yr daughter had said to me just before she went to sleep that she was very worried about Mudhog not working for this weekend  So I pulled the carb apart and started to clean it. I found a fresh score mark on the side of the dash pot, it loo...
