Re: "Lando" - C79's V8 Disco Build Thread

Tips for getting the bellhousing bolts out... Remove the engine mounts so the engine drops a couple of inches to give a bit more room. Fully remove the front driveshaft. Bellhousing bolts are 9/16in. 14mm socket may do at a pinch but will be tight. Most bolts are easiest to get at with a universal j...

If you're after Landrover stud pattern, you may need to get them custom made... I'd suggest a call to Warren at 4wdbits.co.nz or Rex at http://landroverspares.co.nz

Hi Biggles,
Maybe a top mount and bonnet scoop from a Pajero or Bighorn with fan assist for low speed stuff would be easier / cheaper?

Time for "The Hippo" to find a new owner. Well set up for camping in the back with storage box base in the rear for a double bed mattress on top. Lifted to fit 35in tyres. Aftermarket turbo boosting to 15psi. This old girl has done most of the West Coast "tough" tracks and then d...

It was interesting to look at the Clubman truck line-up at the Timaru winch challenge during scrutineering... Differences in diff clearances were VERY obvious (largest to least) Zooks on 33's Hilux on 35's Zook on 32's Hilux / Jeep on 33's Landrover on 35's (Nissan axles/diffs) Cruiser on 33's Tyre ...

My brother has similar issues with his after the Christchurch earthquakes. Refuelling during mild aftershocks and sediment in the service station fuel tanks caused huge problems. Cost him a couple of grand to replace fuel filters and injectors, and flush the whole fuel system....

Re: Broken Transfer Box on Mt Greenland

You could certainly make a start, but unlikely to get past the "Blue mudstone" section which is VERY slippery and quite rutted, so requires pretty good articulation and/or lockers and/or winch with good tyres. Also be careful of washouts on the sides of the track. I'd strongly suggest 2 tr...

Had one for 13 years. 1994 3.1 diesel auto. 160,000km when we got it, now over 400,000km. 2 x timing belts plus ball joints, brake pads and wheel bearings. Oil change every 6 mths and still going strong. Had a turbo whine for the last 150,000km but no loss of boost. Just recently developed a power s...

Safari axles - cos I had a set and heard horror stories about how weak the Landrover diffs were. Surprisingly easy to fit - but I do have a mate with an engineering business. LSD front and ARB rear diffs. 4.1 ratio diffs are perfect with 35in tyres too. I expected the diff pinion or UJ to break with...

Blue mudstone section was driveable for some but most needed a winch or snatch. Bog was driveable if you got the line right. Even the rock step where the break happened was driveable but easier in a LWB. It was a pretty dry day

They are on at least one of the Clubman Class trucks in the Mainland Winch Challenge Series. He's happy with them - no noticeable difference to Simex / Silverstone. And wearing similarly. Pity they aren't available in 35in yet

Clutch is a bleed line - I guess not really necessary but easier than bleeding from below. Vacuum tank is because the clutch also has vacuum boost like the brake. Is it really worth the effort of moving / removing everything? There's plenty of space, and "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" m...

I've got plenty of 10 spline spares ( axles (front and rear), front hubs, CV's) plus a welded diff if you want to persist & keep replacing them as they break.

Wheels further out one side than the other will be due to panhard rods with lifted springs - you need to get adjustable panhard rods. It's not a body mount problem

Re: 96 v8 disco

With no wof requirements, a good guard chop should let you run 33in tyres giving better diff clearance than a Safari or Cruiser on 35's. And the standard suspension is better then most for articulation. If you want to get serious with a budget rear locker then weld the spider gears on the rear diff ...

Be aware that the Ridge Ryder winch has a pretty shitty brake mechanism. It actually locks on under load - so you cant release the tension by winding out on the motor. This may be what you mean by "jamming"? You need to winch far enough so you can drive forward to remove the tension on the...

Thanks heaps to the organisers and Marshals. NZ1 has 24 stages ...
