Re: Anyone know of any events coming up?

Track setting for Chch WC round. Few clubman courses still need proof driving before the event. You'd be just the guy for the job (and we need a few more hands on saws for clearing gorse).

Re: Westport Tracks

Go to Seddonville, head up the road towards Charming creek and just take any side tracks. More than enough to fill a weekend in there. Should be fairly obvious as westport challenge wasn't that long ago so the good tracks will still look used.

Re: Any of these new Yoko G003 muds in the south island?

Look like they are intended to be an aggressive looking street tyre I think. The side lugs get thicker towards the outsides. So more rubber on the outer edge will improve cornering and reduce wear on the edges. But that means the gaps have reverse taper so will lock the mud in to the tread instead o...

Hi Tim
Videos worked fine for me off the posted links just now.

Mainland winch challenge is going back to 33's for clubman next year. Truck will sit more stable and your gearing will be better on 33 than 35.

Re: Tire Pressures.....

Pressure will vary for every tyre and vehicle weight combo. Compare cold pressure then hot pressure after a decent run, should be 4 psi different (I think it was 4 - check with uncle google). More than 4 difference your tire is too soft so sidewalls flexing and heating up increasing pressure. Less t...

Hi T, Good to see Lando is chipping away making progress. Couple of years time I might head down a similar track with a disco. Hope to see you out at Shefield, did another CV in the saf but should be able to get my act together between now and then. Thought you might have been out at Cust for a nosy...

Liverpool Bills - drop in at Dunganville and follow your nose upstream. Bit lumpy for first 1/2 k or so then gravel gets smoother. G2/3 till wherever you meet a pile of flood logs, then whatever grade you push on. Open creek bed, not a scratchy trip. Only a little creek but watch the deep corners. W...

Re: Why no Maxxis Tyres?

Hi T. The Jungle Treckers I ran on the prado were an OK compromise I thought. Not as mud chucking as the SS or ext treckers but lot better than MT's. I used to drive over to coast on them and didnt wear too bad or drive too bad on the seal. Quite stiff tyre for a prado ( or disco) tho, had to get do...

Yep, agree I was probably generalising a bit. Simple roll bar is probably a good compromise. Your event sounds just the ticket, entry level events to keep interest from new faces are important. Especially as you say - courses that aren't truck wreckers. No event has to be but in the heat of the mome...

Re: 2017 Mainland Challenge Rules?

Are cages necessary in Clubman B? I thought they weren't but 2014 rules say they are.... did it change or am I wrong? Discussion ongoing I think, debating if Clubman should be non cage so beginners can have a crack, but then the courses need to be set very safe so no chance of rolls but its not rea...

Me and my boy are just having a bit of a go at some winch comp events. And quickly worked out that using a handheld is a bloody pain when you're trying to sort out ropes and anchors. Dont really want to drop 500 on a comms set as I'm sure I'll need that $ for fixing the truck. Anyone bought cheepy h...

Re: Landcruiser KZJ71 handbrake adjustment

Most prado owners are forever adjusting handrake, they attract mud and go out of adjustment and grind out the shoes in no time. You can drill a hole through the disk shield and back of drum so you can flick the adjustor around without pulling everything off if they start dragging mid trip.

Re: How does snach blocks / pullyes work

Pulling straight line - you wind in 1m of rope and the truck moves forward 1m
Go through a block and back to truck - wind in 1m and truck only moves forward 0.5m as the 1m wound in takes o.5m off each side of the doubled rope. That is where the 1/2 the speed / double the force comes from.
