Re: Discovery V8 Engine Improvements

Yeah the 4.2 Rover V8 was fitted to the Range Rover LSE, the engine fitted to that Range Rover is not a Rover V8. It is fitted with a Jaguar AJ-V8

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaguar_AJ-V8_engine

The last Rover V8 fitted to a Range Rover were the 4.0 and 4.6 fitted to the P38 up until 2002

No the 4.2 still had the smaller main bearing journals. The larger size came with the 4.0 and the 4.6.

Well said Batfastard. You are a man after my own heart :D Even if it is a "myth" that the LR 4.7 CWP is weaker and actually just as strong as the 3.54 CWP it doesnt really matter at all, giving that the 3.54 is made of cheese!! I am going through the same dilemma with my Rangie at th...

Re: Another crown wheel and pinion bights the dust

Have a look at this Batfastard. http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=86617 The attached gearing claculator will tell you exactly what you need to keep your gearing as close to stock as possible. With 35" tyres I do think the 4.75's might be a bit high for the fast events in high range. A...

Re: Another crown wheel and pinion bights the dust

Theres no real loss of ground clearance since the Nissan radius arms are a better design that sit higher I'm pretty sure that ground clearance is measured from the lowest point on the vehicle to the ground. The radius arms are neither here nor there. Now nissans having a diff head the size of the m...

And lose 25mm ground clearence? Are you mad? Its a trade off I suppose but pegged HD KAM CWP and ARB's are gonna be pretty bulletproof anyway just more $$$$ i'd rather have the ground clearence my self.

You going to go for KAM or Ashcroft? Ashcroft do a 4.37:1 might be a bit better for 35's?

You'll want to "Peg" them as well then hopefully you won't be busting them lol.......

Re: 1997 Disco won't run

How many KM's are there on the engine? As with all aluminium block Rover V8's the 3.9 does have steel pressed liners so you may have a slipped liner. I dont think it is though, does the noise change when the engine gets up to temperature? The noise sounds like it is at 1/2 engine speed which would s...

Re: Swivel rebuild on a Classic Rangie front axle

Yes the you are right Reece, the housings are only mild steel and will be no problem drilling the mounting flange. The chrome is there to provide and hard surface but also to prevent corrosion and keep the surface smooth for the seal to run on.

When only one wheel is spinning I'm assuming. If you do have an LSD fitted to the rear and it is working you are right in saying that a "mono" shouldnt happen. Perhaps your LSD is past it's best??? Jack up the rear axle and spin one wheel. If the wheel on the other end turns the same way y...
