Re: fj45 rat rod (ish)
Okay been ages. The project isnt dead but my budget died a while back. I started an electrical apprenticeship and the drop in pay meant I had to mothball things. On the plus side this meant I could think through a lot of stuff and get some plans sorted. So now Im qualified Im looking at moving thing...

Re: fj45 rat rod (ish)
Got asked a while back about progress. Not much to add. Still doing little odd jobs and collecting bits to finish off the air drier thingee. Cash is still tight and my overtime is being channelled where it needs to go, which isnt always where I want to spend it. Separated from the missus for 3 month...

Anyone fitted LED headlights to older vehicles?
Any issues with compliance etc?
Looking at some new lights for my landcruiser projects and wondering if I have to go std glass 7 inch round or if I can add some bling...

Re: fj45 rat rod (ish)
I went in to the paint supplier yesterday to get a few bits I need for painting but they were closed so I figured Id do something related to spraying. My compressed air is too moist to paint (and use air tools apparently) so I whipped this up to work as a condenser between my compressor/regulator/wa...

Re: fj45 rat rod (ish)
Oh yeah the filler cap in the cab is going to get cut out. Lining it up with the new chassis mounted tank was too much of a pain so I'll get rid of it (get some room in the cab) and I have a sneaky plan. I am going to make a fuel can rack/mount behind the drivers side on the running board (that will...

Re: fj45 rat rod (ish)
Some ugly welds there I'll agree. Been a while and I am way out of practice. But they are strong and the grinder took most of the badness away. Rust was a bitch for sure. Treated the hell out of the insides while it was in bits and then again when it was welded - flooded the whole thing and stained ...

Re: fj45 rat rod (ish)
Right. Been a while, but finances took a dive when I became an apprentice so I am time rich and money poor. Slowly working through a few odds and ends. Front end mocked up and just have to sort body mounts for the front panels/guards (may have mentioned that a while back but cant remember). I bought...

Re: Changes to a certed vehicle
New cert of everything as they replace the cert plate. When I did my hilux I got pinge for the crappy engine install and seats although they had complied to the last certifier.
I had to fix everything to the new guys spec's as his interpretations were different to the old guys.

Re: fj45 rat rod (ish)
So I finished my weekend of messing about with the simple job of removing the windscreen hinges and removing the hinge pins so I could replace the bushes. Hmmmm. Lots of heat and 1 hour of bashing to get one out (didnt want to overheat it or bend it so maybe took longer than it needed to) and 35 min...

Re: fj45 rat rod (ish)
looking good man, cool project. are you keeping the front quarter windows ( cut seals down and new glass) or one peace door glass? Not sure yet. If I get rid of the quarters then I need new glass and maybe the winders wont handle it (so need new winders). I'm leaning towards just replacing the quar...

Re: fj45 rat rod (ish)
So I had some dinner and dived back into the screen hack. I welded up the inside portion as that was nice and simple and then flipped it over to see how far out it was. http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm268/explman/20160109_212757_zpsnskk72d0.jpg http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm268/explman/2...

Re: fj45 rat rod (ish)
SO I decided I'd start the windscreen chop before I got it blasted (place isnt open till next week and I'm impatient) Worked out heights to cut on a door I had (could easily measure the screen slope distance -original chop height is 75mm but slope measurement is 77mm) So I marked it all out and star...

Re: HJ45 flatdeck restoration
Was looking for some with a halo of day time lights in NZ but they seem to be way too over priced here (sorry NZ suppliers), but am wary of buying offshore because of our standards for WoFs and warranties should something go wrong. Might just stick with the el cheepies for now. Looking bloody good t...
