Re: Need Instrument cluster for Safari GQ TD42.

Hi Guys
I gave up in the end and took the cluster to Parrotts in Christchurch. Speedo issues solve by them fitting their custom speedo circuit board. There is a slight flicker but not an issue. It is adjustable, by them, to allow for different tyre sizes etc.

Help needed. I’m about to be grounded when my WOF runs out due to a speedo failure. Does anyone have an instrument cluster for the GQtd42. Years 1990-1994. With the yellow instrument markings. Ill take one with faults if its the usual GQ faults of sticky movement or needs a tap to start. These fault...

Re: Turbo certification

Thanks Coxsy
I was completely unaware of that problem. The only gearbox issue I have, at the moment, is a sticky / hard change between 1st to 2nd first thing in the morning until she warms up.

I used to own a Toyota Prado, and the owners manual did recommend not to tow in 5th gear.

Cheers

Well she's all done, just certification to go. replaced all brake hoses, pads, discs, master, balance valve. Should be good for the brake fade test, the mechanic reckons she's spot on. The fuel has been turned up 1/4 turn with no excessive smoke issues. Id be interested to hear if others have put mo...

I'll take a close look at how they fitted it soon. Is it possible to heat shield the slave cylinder?

Re: Turbo certification

As a matter of interest for anyone considering the DTS turbo kit, there were problems with the exhaust manifold fitting, had to have some milling done. Another issue was the poor qu...

Hi
Both mine failed over time. Genuine Nissan ones are available from Ali install on trademe, might also be available from northland, for both 24v and 12v systems. Best to go genuine for quality.

Re: Turbo certification

Thanks Blake The DTS dump pipe has the sensor after the Turbo. As far as driving goes, I'm conservative with the gas, I want this truck to last, and not let me down in the middle of nowhere. Nothing to prove, just want to make the driving experience a bit easier, be nice to be able to keep up with t...

Re: Turbo certification

Thanks coxsy Yes Ive bitten the bullet and purchased one of those expensive, but nice, Redarc combination Boost/EGT gauges. Ive seen mention not to go over 550 C but you feel 600c is the limit? Ill go conservative and use 550c. By the way I do have a decode of the wires coming out of the 24v12v fact...

Re: Turbo certification

Thanks for your input Coxsy I am really looking forward to hitting the road with the caravan this summer. It will be nice to be able to do a reasonable job on the hills. Re: Turbo certification

Hi
Found the answer on the driveshaft safety loop. Latest amendment March 2021, only required if power is increased by 50% or more. So turbo on its own ok at 41%, but with intercooler 53%, according to DTS website.
Cheers

Re: Turbo certification

Thanks Coxsy, I was wondering about a drive shaft safety loop for the rear driveshaft, it seems to be mentioned in the LVVTA literature. N/A GQ TD42 which turbo to fit

Hi Guys My 1991 shorty suffers from the usual lack of power towing and on the hill. I use it for towing a 1.5 tonne caravan, all the time. I would like to get a turbo fitted, not big psi only thinking 10-12 psi and keeping standard injector pump, just enough to help on the hills. I’ve seen the kit o...

which brake pads

Hi Guys Just wondering which brake pads to use on my 1991 GQ shorty. Reading on the net it appears that a softer pad is a better bet than some of the hard ones, which apparently can wear out your disc quickly. Some also swear that the original Nissan pads are the best. Has anyone got recommendations...

Re: What are these

Thanks for the reply. These are vacuum operated solenoid valves that operate the exhaust gas Re circulation system, EGR. I have since noticed that the vacuum supply to them has been disconnected. So unknown to me the EGR has been disconnected for over 10 years. The truck runs well with no smoke, so ...

Replace rusty sliding window frames

Hi Guys I’m posting this as a very satisfied customer of “fast autoglass” from Christchurch. My 1991 SWB Safari had the usual rusty sliding rear window frames. I checked out replacement frames, but they are big bucks. My research showed that many people had replaced these sliders with one piece wind...

Re: where to find part for safari

Hi Calvin thanks for the reply. However my truck has done 190,000 kms without one, so perhaps I am looking for a...

Re: spring spacers, fixing in place?

Hi Guys I've got the spring spacers in place and they have got the desired result 30mm lift. It took the garage around 4 hours to do the lot, apparently they did have to use a spring compressor, as I have new springs fitted all round. I did have one interesting thing happen on my first long trip. Co...
