THUMP felt on acceleration
Hi All, Posted this on NPORA also, but maybe best to check locally given it's a Jap import... Have a very long standing issue that I'd like to resolve - hope you can give me some pointers. More often than not, when I take off from either stand-still, or simply having slowed for traffic lights (in 2W...

Re: Turbo replacement / upgrade on TD27T
Thanks Crash, Yesterday I picked up a Mistral turbo (a Garrett), but now I suspect its a pre-facelist (topmount IC) one, which I guess is different on the outlet? It's compressor outlet is positioned exactly the same as my Hitachi HT12. Maybe its a TB2557? The wrecker also had one from an R50 Terran...

Turbo replacement / upgrade on TD27T
Hey all, hoping for a bit of advise, as the current standard Hitachi H12 is on it's last legs after 315k of service. It's only hitting 5.5 psi, last week still doing 10 psi... Also passes oil. I've got a second turbo in similar condition, with play but so far no sign of damage, so the plan was to ch...

damper vs a 'tether' on snatch straps
Trying to understand why dampers seem to be commonly advertised and mentioned in recovery articles, but never see mention of simply having a tether tied to the vehicle and the end of the snatch strap (for each end)? Wouldn't a tether with a couple meters slack stop any shackles etc buggering off wit...

Re: Tow bar on bumper brackets? (and new bar build..)
Any thoughts on tow eyes with shackles, vs hooks with little retainer thingy? I know the con with eyes and shackles being extra weight for the missile, should things go pear shaped... But how do the 4.5T hooks cut it when they are basically breaking load rated, and many snatch straps are much strong...

Re: Tow bar on bumper brackets? (and new bar build..)
Thought I'd post up some details of what I did in the end, after a lot of thought and trial fitting bits. Really wanted something similar to a 'class 3 hitch' with a removable 50mm draw bar, without spending several hundred getting something custom built. Key criteria was to: - have the bar tucked u...

Re: Need to get thread tapping done (18mm x 1.5 LH) - Auckland
cheers guys. Have access to a lathe but not skilled up enough on it so don't want to make up such critical parts. Besides wouldn't you need a very specific cutting tool to give the right pitch etc (cutting internal thread, FWIW)? Might cost more than thread taps? Anyway got some cheap ones off Aliex...

Need to get thread tapping done (18mm x 1.5 LH) - Auckland
Trying to locate an engineering outfit (pref. North Shore) that can do 18 x 1.5 left hand, and 16 x 1.5 right hand.
Needed for some tie rod adjusters, out of 4140 round.
I've tried Active Engineering in Albany, but they don't have the LH tap.
Thanks!

recommend a welder in Auckland (North or East)?
Hey, Hoping someone can recommend a decent welder on the shore, or in central/east Auckland? Need to have new mounts put on a 75mm box section bar with hitch receiver, to raise it up a bit behind the bumper of my Terrano. A couple of mainstream towbar shops contacted don't seem too keen, probably as...

Re: Tow bar on bumper brackets?
Thanks Blake. The bar I have has the hitch box inline with the main bar, not tacked on underneath like many are. I think removing mounting it on another bar like this is possibly more work than fitting new brackets on the one I have. But still be interested in a photo of your old bar if you can take...

Re: Tow bar on bumper brackets?
thanks Blake, yeah the tow points definitely look like the strongest accessible mounting point. Just not much to mount to for second bolt, assuming the first goes in the oval hole. Similar deal for other side. Yeah, was worried about it's suitability for recoveries. The end of chassis shown is actua...

Tow bar on bumper brackets? (and new bar build..)
IMG_20170107_162059053_HDR.jpg Taking back bumper off my Wd21 Terrano the other day I noticed the main mounts each end of the towbar beam are attached to the bottom of brackets that the factory bumper mounts to. These in turn mount to chassis rails ends, but those are perforated with big holes, I g...

Hi Lax,
What was the length of those 25mm HD tierods adjusters you had made up? Did I read correctly that you had them made in Auckland. Would you mind giving the name of the engineering company you used? Cheers.

your probably right, but it seems strange there's so many small wires coming out of the plug at the back. Guess it might relate to the vacuum pump.

Re: uh oh, warning lights after a swim...
Thanks for reply dieselboy. Logical assumption - I remember now alt light can indicate a bad winding or rectifier diode that's gone open circuit. However seems to have come right, strangely enough. First off, I realised later it wasn't the oil light, rather the coolant level warning. When I tested i...

Hey guys, I got my Terrano a bit deep in the water a couple of days ago (as in headlights only just above water, under for a moment). Stereo made a sudden loud as fark, "dat-dat-dat-dat-dat" sound, like the speakers were directly wired across AC. Driving today my battery/alternator...

Re: Best all-round shock for 2" lifted terrano
Standards in the front end are just fine, have you reindexed or just cranked your torsions? If it's the latter then take em down & reindex instead so you get a better spring rate. For Rears I use extended Munroes, but tempted to go Rancho 9000s when these ones start getting bad. Now I've seen t...

Armada Extremes with remote reservoirs from Trundles Automotive. give you about 10 hp at the wheels extra Sweet, per shock I assume. That's near a 50% power gain right there. ...but seriously was more looking at sub $800 options.... Have contacted Trundles on the Adventure shocks however - they see...

Best all-round shock for 2" lifted terrano
Hi, just wondering if anyone has experience with more than one brand of the aftermarket shocks like Tough Dog, Raw, Rancho, etc, and what they found best on Terrano. Hi, saw your comment on Passengerpete's thread, and tracked your thread down. IC looks really good. Do you remember what model &...

Cheers, Dan.

Re: Adding an oil pressure gauge to TD27T
Thanks Crash.
So did you add one of those inserts that is sandwiched between filter and the block, or into an oil feed line to the turbo? What pressure do you normally see? Is your location not ideal for reading pressure, hence the comment about flow being more important to you?
Cheers.

Adding an oil pressure gauge to TD27T
Hey Guys, Where have others added an oil pressure gauge sender on the WD21 Terrano TD27T? The factory pressure switch appears to be in a very hard to access location under the inlet manifold. Is there an easier place to tap in? If not, does anyone know what size/type thread the standard pressure swi...
