Thanks for the input. from the vids it looks like a pretty easy track.
Think I'll throw some tow hooks on it any way just incase as they are cheap and easy addition.

Just wanted people's opinions on the capability of a standard prado on this parti...

Re: G16a camshaft grind

Hi drewz1

After doing a bit of research it seems the head does have to come off for the 8valve. Sorry to put you wrong , my experience is only with 16 valve motors and I mistakenly thought they both would be the same.

Yup Easy pessy. I think the cam may even have to come out first anyway as it is positioned over the head bolts ? Either way head removal is not required.

Re: 1990 suzuki escudo all over road

If your unsure if it has a locker. Simply jack both wheels off the ground and spin one wheel. Both wheels will go in the same direction (an open diff will spin wheels in opposite direction to each other)or you might hear the locker clacking very distinctively ( like horse shoe noise).

Prado j90 2 speed transfer box

Hello all.
My boss has gifted me his 99' prado to use as a work vehicle.( lucky me)
I noticed that the gear stick for engaging low ratio has high, high low and low low. Did a little bit if research on Wikipedia and found the prada has a two stage transfer box.
What is the purpose of having this?

Auto locker setup/rebuild

I have a lockrite auto locker in my 1.6 escudo which I instaled myself. Up until today it's been fine but it has suddenly started making some weird noises and clunks. I am still yet to remove and investigate further but if worst comes to worst, who is the best person to get to rebuild in Wellington?...

Fast/high idle

I have a g16a powered escudo. Since installing a snorkel, the idle has been more than excessive, sometimes reaching 2100rpm. At first I thought it may be a vacuum leek but after reaching normal operating temp it drops down to around 1000rpm.any help would be appreciated

Re: Hello from Palmerston North

The YZF radiator was a brilliant idea. I would have suggested a Subaru rs turbo legacy water to air inter cooler and water pump, simply coz they are cheap and readily available. My neighbour and I are doing a very similar setup on his safari. Did you you the factory oil supply and drain lines for th...

x3 for the lockright auto locker. You do have to learn how to drive round abouts and sharp turning but any sacrifice made for on road driving is more than made up for when off road. I have only had to use my winch a couple of times since installing the locker. And there's one on trade me for $350 at...

I have mounted my rear tow hooks, 1 on either side using a piece of 50x50x6 angle about 100mm long then bolted to the two 12mm holes at the rear of the chassis rails, usually were a tow bar would be mounted to. You will have to remove the rear bumper for this option though. The front is difficult if...

high idle/low running temp

Hi all , my g16a 16 valve powered escudos cold start idle is around 2000 rpm and takes around 10-15 minutes of round town driving before the the gauge will register and then one the temp reaches 1/4 the idle might drop down to normal idle speed. Temp generally never go's over 1/4 with on road drivin...

A body lift will also help clear 30'' tyres. And half the price of springs.
