Re: 24v Wiring Questions

another thing it would pay to do is put a circuit breaker or fuse at each end Why the second fuse? Shouldn't it be one as close to the positive source as possible? I agree, second fuse at the battery end is redundant. In saying that you need fuses on the outlets of the battery to your accessories. ...

Re: 24v Wiring Questions

I tend to agree with Keithal, if you want to run an accessory battery and charger, you might as well fit a whole second battery system. Especially if you want to be running fridges, big amplifiers and stereos off it. It is possible to mount an extra belt driven alternator under the injector pump, I'...

Re: 24v Wiring Questions

Great idea pre-running the wiring, saves a lot of time. Firstly, an this I cannot stress enough; NEVER TAKE 12V OFF THE HIGH SIDE OF THE LOW BATTERY OR THE LOW SIDE OF THE HIGH BATTERY. It's really bad for them and can cause more issues than just overheating, particularly when you get into the scien...

Re: td42 crankshaft oil seal gen or aftermarket

I found Mayfield Motors (Blenheim) useful when looking for oddball parts, not that a rear main seal is odd. Good service and willing to ship parts. Forget the guys name I dealt with though..

North Shore Nissan (Takapuna) do some real sharp pricing normally too.

I replaced my leaking ones with a Terrain Tamer (sp?) kit I got from BNT. Had no problems with them. You are correct about the needle bearing setup. I'd give Auckland Bearings a ring (09) 444 6566, that was who I got recommend last time I needed seals, good to deal with. 4WDBits sell the seals too -...

Try The Gearbox Factory they have a couple branches in Auckland. One in Henderson and one out east somewhere. Great to deal with, their labour is $80 an hour (Well it was when they just did my clutch) just supply the parts and oil yourself.

Re: td42 crankshaft oil seal gen or aftermarket

You must have gone to the wrong Nissan dealer. I got one for about $55 the other month from Nissan. It has been said before genuine seals are better but I've used aftermarket ones in diffs and various other places with no issues. Only when genuine for the rear main due to access being a major job, a...

Re: HI LIFT jacks Vs Generic copies.

Great tools, handy to use as a hand winch with the kit and a couple snig chains but its a very slow and tedious process. One inch at a time and you lose about 10 inches off the length of the jack each winch due to repositioning it each pull. Can be used to press as well, never had a use for one but ...

Hey Dan, Nice looking truck. Standard idle speed is 700 +/- 50 rpm. So yes your trucks running a bit low. Aside from whats been mentioned, I'll add: 1. Rust in the rear quarters, even if it's been chopped. The wheel tubs too.. 2. Solid front axle wobble, most SFAs I've driven do wobble a bit but it can be bad. Its normally a sign of incorrectly shimmed or worn kingpin bearings, but could be suspension b...

Re: radio frequencies ( MHz )

Quick answer: No. Antennae length is very important to good communications, reducing interference and standing waves. PRS radios run from 476.4250MHz to 477.4125MHz at 12.5kHz channel spacing. Making the center frequency 477.4125MHz. The simplest and most effective antenna design is a half wave ante...

+1 for NS70's, (650CCA) Great batteries. I personally don't like the MF versions (Maintenance free) mainly due to the fact you cannot test or top up the electrolyte, apparently they don't like rocking around as much as the non MF ones too. beg to differ, personally seen a MF battery fall out of a 4...

Safari Clutch

Evening ORE,

So I blew the clutch in my Safari today, SWB GQ TD42. I was just after some experiences about the different clutches on the market.

I have no plans on turboing the beast so is a HD clutch an over kill or is it worth putting a HD clutch in a NA 4WD.

Hey Tom,

Whats involved in moving a GQ PTO back? Do you need a new drive shaft machined or can you just trim the stock one down?

Some nice work by Tom there 8) Note his use of dimple dies - an easy lathe project since you have access to one & a good way to add heaps of strength to thinner flat sections. One thing I prefer on a winch bar is to keep it relatively open around the winch. Assuming the winch isn't just for sho...

Cheers Pete,

I intend to use the factory points, as that's what Nissan used. Hopefully some brainy engineer designed it to winch off, seeing as they sold winches to fit there.

I have seen Tom's work, even asked if he'd sell me the blue print.
