1KD FTV is the 4.5 turbo diesel. It is timing chain, with one per head as far as I know. Hope that helps.

Re: New shocks and springs, but what to get?
I mean they have four different spring rates depending on the load in your truck. If you constantly carry heavy fully loaded vs empty and no bullbars etc. I got a good deal through our local agent and fitted myself. Was pretty simple if you have basic mechanical knowledge. Cost was around the $1200 ...

Re: New shocks and springs, but what to get?
We put ironman under our Prado that is doing very similar to you. I am very pleased with it and price was good too. Just make sure you get the right weight springs. They have four different ones depending on what is on your truck.

Re: 3.2 DiD motor - shite or alright?
We have one 3.2 and two 2.5's. The 3.2 is by far the better motor, more even power and the torque comes on from a lot lower down. Has done 70000 km in low box on a south island high country station and still going strong. Only issue we have had is with egr coke'ing up. May be due to the driver being...

Re: Rainbow rd or Acheron rd
At this time of year both roads are really just shingle roads. Not much adventure in them. Great scenery on both. Personally i would do acheron to get to Blenheim as wouldn't be doubling back so much. Could always do the loop then head to Westport from hanmer or save the rainbow for a winter trip.

Re: Another what tyre thread - pls help me decide!
Have run both in 235 85 16 on my truck on high country station and on river beds. Would not go kuhmo again. Had 4 punctures and two tyres that ended up with large bulges and were replaced by local agent. Whereas the Bighorns have had no issues and have done the same k's that the kuhmos have done but...

Re: Mitsubishi Triton 3.2 Diesel Info wanted
Great trucks, we have one at work on a hill country station. We also have two newer 2.5 tritons and the 3.2 is far better power and smoothness. Like all new diesels watch for moisture and contaminants in fuel system. Some appear to have an electric rear window in the twin cab, our twin cab does not....

I had a similar noise on a turbo-ed 5L hilux. After tooing and froing with two mechanics turned out to be a stud on exhaust inlet to turbo being loose allowing copper gasket to whistle.

Correct,16s are smallest rims due to callipers rubbing. You should have no worries going to 265 75 16. Would suggest anything from maxxis buckshots or bighorns, or if budget allows cooper stt.

+1 for meindls. Have had my pair for 8 years doing exactly what you want to do with them. have worn the soles right off them almost. Go to R&R sport, they will set you right. The main thing is keep up the maintenance, ie wash and wax boot regularly.

Cv,s really are the weak point on most side by sides. Another thing to watch is down hill engine braking. Some require slight throttle to engage drive. We have also chewed a couple of belts on our ones at work. They are a leap forward from an old quad though
