Re: 80 Series front swivel hub rebuild
Don’t forget that the bronze spindle bush for the 80 is a real beast compared to the one for the 60 & 70 series front spindles. Toyota increased the size of the bush because the 80 series is full time 4WD. I agree that $200 is a bit steep but they appear to be the only source for suitable bushes...

Re: 1HDT head gasket replacement
There ain't no butterfly's on a 1HDT so the bushes won't be leaking.

Re: Kiwipete's VX
Yes that's correct. 24v start 12v running. The main battery is the left hand one.(from drivers seat) I think that you will find that the right hand battery is the main battery as it is the one where the negative lead is connected to the chassis direct. It is also the battery that did not have the f...

Re: 80 Series Land Cruiser - 1HDT Electrial Issue
This is an old topic but I am curious. Did you find the problem and was it that the earth lead from the right hand battery was not connected to the engine block leaving the tiny instrument ground to carry the starter current?

Re: 4X4Labs Rear Bumper for 80 Series Landcruiser
Quoted $2600 for an ARB and $2000 for a TJM supplied in NZ.
So I perhaps think that 4x4 Labs might be better in terms of value despite being a outset. At least it would be customizable from the start.

4X4Labs Rear Bumper for 80 Series Landcruiser
Is there anyone who is interested in a 4x4 labs rear bumper kit set for their 80 series Landcruiser as I am thinking about getting one in and the freight is a bit steep on a single unit basis. Paying for a pallet space and would like to add to the quantity to share the freight cost. http://www.4x4la...

Re: WTD: 80 Series Landcruiser front diff
Of course you are sure that the backlash is all coming from the crown wheel and pinion and not the CV's and Drive Flanges, right. Unless you can buy a factory electric locker complete hub to hub you may as well rebuild the old one. At least you will have the satisfaction of knowing that it is all go...

I am currently resident at Scott Base on Ross Island in McMurdo Sound.
We have here a selection of Toyotas ranging from 70 series wagons to a 75 series tray back ute and a few Hiluxes.
Life is good and yes it is cold and dark at the moment with a lot of fresh snow.
Cheers

Re: 80 series factory rear locker issues
SO you have trouble with the factory E locker. Check http://www.1h8mud.com for threads about the operation of the E lockers. You have to have the center diff locked and cnfirmation indication on the dash. Only then will power go to the E locker motors. Don't be fooled by the flashing lights on the d...

Re: Ground Anchors
It is a mystery to me why manufacturers of Plow type ground anchors manufacture them with the plow designed so that it digs out a scoop of dirt. From a technical point of view constructing them like this----> and pulling on them concentrates all the forces into a small piece of dirt and rips it out....

He didn't win this time. Others had better runs through the stages. Justin didn't roll his truck so that helped. There was abit of carnage out in the forest. Trans Cooler
The general theory is that you install them in the line from the trans to the radiator cooler. This ensures that the fluid goes back to the trans at a reasonably constant temperature. The cooler before the radiator removes heat before the fluid goes into the radiator making life easier for the radia...

Synthetic Winch Rope
Ok I give in here.
Where in NZ can I buy some synthetic winch rope, I have found on the web "Braun" from Aussie "X Line" from Rockcrawler.com "AmSteel Blue" from RockStopmer.com and of course the Warm synthetic replacement rope but have not found anywhere to purchase this in NZ YET.
Thanks
