Re: Which one to choose Hilux Surf OR Prado 1996 to 1998

I have a 1998 intercooled 1kz surf. Never gets driven gently and has 312,000kms on it and the occasional off road play and its never let me down, no breakages or anything. Still original head too (just have to always make sure radiator and fans in good nick and they last) Gets about 550kms to a tank...

Only really going to be major damage if the waters been sitting in the bore for some time. But look at it this way, heads gotta come off anyway so pull it off and have a nosey at the bores for water damage and pitting. If all good spend 1.5k on new head, if not ok spend 1.5-2.5k on replacement motor...

Re: Adding 2-stroke oil to diesel?

Ive had a we play with this after reading this thread this weekend. Put about 300mls in a full tank on my kzn185 surf and sorry to say I didn't notice anything. Is this a trick that's more noticeable on older noisier manual pump injectors not electronicly timed injectors perhaps? as I've noticed the...

Re: 2.7 petrol surf fuel use in real life ??

If you are only doing 15,000km a year petrols the way to go as otherwise you are paying twice as much for rego being a diesel ($440 a year I think I paid) And as well as that manual 3 litre 1kz surfs are very rare so you would probably end up paying a premium for it, I know I wish my surf was manual...

Possibly see Toyota dealer and get a replacement part but you would pay through the teeth for it, even finding a secondhand unit might be tricky as there's not too many ferozas and Rocky's about anymore

Re: 3.5 pajero fast idle?

Not a good idea to mess with the o2 sensors sometimes but sounds more like an air leak, assuming you removed the throttle body to clean it so make sure there's no air leaks where its been removed and bolts back up. Good way to find leaks is to spray engine start or CRC around seals of the intake par...

Re: Toyota 2.8 diesel (3L model) reconditioning

Fair enough, have a look at the head and valve stem seals then, only a few hundred to get head seals done and hopefully stop oil leak, doubt it would be rings yet as the 2.8s never die, even after I rebuilt my 2.8 with new rings and bearings it had a fair amount of blow by so ild say the L series ma...

Re: Toyota 2.8 diesel (3L model) reconditioning

Unless you are looking to spend big bucks and keep your truck forever ild just say get a good second hand engine instead for half the price, they normally live forever the 2.8s so not really worth spending the money on a new one unless you know you are going to be doing another 300+kms while you own...

I run a 145amp mig with a co2 bottle so not renting bottles and it does anything I ask it to quite happily. Got mine ages ago from trademe, go to a shop if you are willing to part with your cash or find a dealer through here for a good price. I dont remember what I paid im sorry it was a few years ago now. You could quite easily install your springs and shocks yourself if you are confident, most people do...

Re: Help surf siting at high revs

Suspension lifts easy, body lift will require a bit of skill and 2 people. As for 33s yep thatll slow it down a bit but remember your speedo will still say 100 but you will be a tad over so check via gps, and your acceleration times will be out the window lol so look at intercooler, boost increase a...

Re: Help surf siting at high revs

yep thats normal for the early surfs, not much you can do apart from change the gearing via wheels and diffs so dont worry as toyota made them that way. My newer surf (1998) only does 2000rpm at 100kmh but thats with the 1kz and auto trans. Means my old surf with 2.8 turbo manual did 400-450kms to a...

 not a very good offroad jeep if it has a diesel yet needed 6k of electrics. If I could get away with charging 6k to wire in a diesel engine (fuel cut, alternator and glow lol there isnt much) ild be loaded by now!
