Re: Landcruiser KZJ71 handbrake adjustment
I had to do one not long back as the handbrake was only just engaging at the end of the lever travel. I just wound the adjuster on the rear hubs up until it dragged then backed it off until there was no drag felt. After that the brake was fully engaged at about 3/4s of the handbrake lever travel. Re: grenade engines
Hey dude. Never had anything to do with them myself so I'm not speaking from experience but "The Dog and Lemon Guide" has this to say about them: " ENGINE PROBLEMS - The air flow meter on the 3.0 (ZD30) turbo diesel engine fails at high mileages, frequently causing melted pistons and ...

Yeah they're pretty general comments that could be applied to any modern engines... Some people think Nissans are the best, some people think Toyotas are the best, other people have their own ideas... Truth is every model (even from the same factory), every variant and every engine is different and ...

Re: Prado j90 2 speed transfer box
So does the "2 speed" transfer case refere to the hi and low speeds? Yes. dont most common 4x4s have a two speed transfer case ? Yep - having a transfer case with a high and low ratio would (for most people) be a defining factor between a "real 4x4" designed for off-road use and...

Hey Paul. The book for mine (I think we have the same rear diff) says API GL5 with an SAE rating of 80W or multi-grade 80W-90 at temps below 18 deg and SAE 90W at temps above 18 deg. The maintenance schedule says replace every 40 thousand K's. Super Cheap Auto currently has Castrol EPX 80W-90 4 Litr...

Re: carefull with your cutoff wheels
I know it's extremely rare for a modern grinding wheel to fail (when used properly) but when they do go the results can be spectacular. I've probably spent literally hundreds of hours using grinders over the past couple of decades and I've seen the good old polycarb face shield do it's job quite a f...

Hi. Running costs, petrol and diesel - when comparing running costs of diesel and petrol vehicles don't forget to factor in road user charges on the diesel. Also the diesel will require more frequent and expensive servicing. Around the $5K you might find a half decent Surf but be careful of poorly m...

Here's a link to the government website explaining vehicle lighting. https://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/get-your-lights-right/get-your-lights-right/ Roof mounted lights usually fall under the 'work lights' category (can't be switched to operate as part of main beam circuit). It's an offence to use t...

Hey dude. Nice purchase, I'll be following your thread if you decide to do it up. The 4WD vans will never be ultimate off-road performers because of their design; like others have said, ultimately they're limited by their angles and whenever you see a modified one under-body bash protection (particu...

Hey Calvin. Really digging watching your build mate, sorry for hijacking it there. I was wondering about the designations as I see a lot of 77s on overseas sites but never in NZ. Re: KZJ78 Playdoh Bob and other stuff
Hi Peter.
Can you settle a question for me regards model codes? The KZJ78 is the model equipped with the 1KZ-TE engine and the KZJ77 is the model equipped with the 1KZ-T engine - basically the same vehicle but with the manual pump rather than the ECU controlled pump?
Cheers
