Re: Late model Grand Cherokee diesel

Would you consider a TDV8 Range Rover sport, they weigh 2.8 ton, have all the towing power you will ever need.
They are surprisingly economical and second hand they are way cheaper than a cruiser .

Re: Plasma cutters??

Before I bought the plasma cutter I was told you can't beat the cost, wether you use gas, discs or plasma. I am real pleased I bought mine, there is nothing safe about a 9 inch disc grinder and oxy lpg seems to use way more oxy. Maybe it's different in the North Island but down here the gas companie...

Re: Plasma cutters??

I bought a thermal dynamics cut master 81 on tm for $1000 a few years ago.
It is the only one I have ever had and goes well. Apparently is better than average for cost to run for wearing parts.
I would prefer to buy second hand heavy duty than brand new Chinese .
You need 400v though.

The answer is yes, but you need a series parallel switch.

Re: Goodyear Wrangler MT/R 255/55R 19" anywhere?

The tyre shops are absolutely hopeless, they all say they have got some out the back and will have a look if you ring back.
No tyre shops will have them in NZ or Aus. I bought some in from the UK.

Jeff Gray BMW in Hastings had some last year I think from memory.
Good luck

Re: hydraulic winch

It would be better to run the pump off the front of the motor with a belt and electric clutch.

Re: Silverstone MT117 285/85/16

I think you missed my point.
Its no problem to bring these in from the UK, but if you damage one, you can't just buy another one.

I have been looking locally for ages.
Mine where $180 each

Re: Silverstone MT117 285/85/16

There are 4 on ebay uk for 700 GBP.
But I think they would be a daft choice, not because there is anything wrong with them because what happens if you open one up.
Also they used to be cheap, $1400 is too much.

Re: front driveshaft removal

If you keep driving, it could end up inside by the clutch pedal and you wont like it.
If you run it off road on the rear diff alone expect trouble.
Thats why they were constant 4wd in the first place.

Re: Ex RNZAF Defender

I think I used a 2.5 inch exhaust, you don't need much for a muffler. Remember to use a flexijoint near the turbo. I did this in the early nineties . Also remember the original sump is tiny, but you keep the horsepower sensible you won't have any problems. Mine was putting out about 160 hp and had e...

Re: Ex RNZAF Defender

You need a big air cleaner, I used a Donaldson out off a MF combine, probably an 8 or 10 inch. It can't be too big.
Air is still pretty cheap, and the more you use the better.
You also need an extra big exhaust.

Re: Set of 255/55 x 19 MTR wranglers WTD

If you know a tyre shop thats got them that would be great, but
I think they are more likely to be found in a home garage somewhere.
Pity that Landrover can't design a 4wd with tyres that are being made.
