Re: 2000+ 4wd ute options.
don't touch the 2.5 litre nissan(or the 3 litre) Junk Motors. My 3RZ in a 1996 hilux Surf was a bit gutless when towing, the 2.7 litre mistral Tdi is significantly better. Perhaps look for a 2000 model Navara with the QD32 motor, great motor, but lack power in NA form, so turbo charge it(easy to do ...

Re: Terrano fuel tank question
they will be different, as the petrol fuel system is different to the diesel one. eg, the petrol one will have a fuel pump located in the tank, so even if you hook up the intake pipe, the diesel injector pump will be sucking through the redundant petrol fuel pump and filter.

Re: temp gauge
yeah something is wrong. The top hose would more likely be around 83-90 degrees max as a general rule under conditions you describe. If you were driving it hard, or doing a long uphill, or on sand, it might climb to 100-105. If it was genuinely 118 degrees , the factory gauge would be up towards the...

Re: TD42 oil gallery ports and sump
have you considered teeing the aftermarket oil pressure sender into the existing factory port?
ie unscrew factory one, wind in a tee with a thread for the aftermarket sender out the side, then screw the factory sender in to the external end of the tee.

Upon reflection,if only one cylinder or bearing has damage, it is unlikely to be a oil pressure issue IMHO. So how are the other bearing shells etc?

if you are getting a new radiator, consider the Scarles terrano replacement, which is 52mm thick, compared to the factory 26mm. Increase in water volume and more heat sink volume is handy. https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/performance/radiators-cooling-systems/auction-1527589577...

did North Range road last week. Was pretty dry up there compared to normal, despite rain the previous day. We did a few options that I avoided when it was real wet. I was last in there in Sept 2016. Since then, the year of wet weather combined with a keen group of wheelspinning mud loving younger fe...

I agree with what you are saying, just no obvious room to go higher or wider in the mistral engine bay, unfortunately. And the original poster won't be super keen to have to get another radiator after buying a new one recently.

Have you disconnected the trans fluid from running through the bottom of radiator before it hits the factory trans cooler? The auto trans puts out heaps of heat on the beach/ towing/climbing a hill, which serves to add heat to the water in radiator. I find that aftermarket gauges greatly add to the ...

i'm going to suggest, after looking at your wheels/tyres in relation to your body panels, plus knowing you have a V8, that your next move (after your first mud outing) will be some form of mud flaps!

I'm not very familiar with the X5 , does it have a low ratio in the transfer case or not? Looks really good, approach and departure angles are amazing compared to stock. Let's see how the suspension and steering hold up off road. I think you will need the traction control switched off for mud, as it...

cheap option would be spring spacers. also most closely matches factory ride. You would need a 25mm spacer to gain 50mm ride height. Don't ask me why or what the logic is behind that. It just happens. and BTW congratulations on your 5th post in 13 years on this forum ! :) I'm guessing you are the st...

Re: advice on buying a nissan mistral 2.7 diesel
they do not have a digital speedo. The non intercooled versions are a bit gutless. Fine on the flat, and if you don't tow too much. Much cheaper to recondition the injector pump though, compared to the ETi version. Those trans that fail usually suffer heat damage, (driving in soft sand heats them up...

good power. very reliable motor. keep trans serviced. strong diff. add a trans cooler if towing. only downside is that they are "ETi" which means that the diesel injector pump is expensive to repair when it wears or faults. Budget $3k for a complete job. But who knows when or if it will fa...

running the factory rim has helped with the clearance, as even a small change in offset can cause rubbing on the front tyres once you go to a bigger diameter wheel.
