Re: diagnosing overheating problem
Just reading "off the clock" hot after 5 mins driving. Doesn't seem to be using coolant. I'm a bit suspect of the color of the coolant tho, it looks an oliy brown but it's not oily to touch, must just be corrosion? When the Mrs overheated it I popped the bonnet to find a leak coming from w...

Not a 4wd but the Mrs caldina has started overheating. Saw rad cap n hoses were well old so replaced them as part of a full service I done yesterday which it was overdue for, it started overheating before the service, both top n bottom hoses r hot so I guess that means flow is not restricted right? ...

Re: Isuzu 4jb1-t repower
Cheers for that reply.
I didn't think I would get huge gains from current motor.
I was hoping a later model rodeo or something similar would bolt in.
Its already intercooled from factory, I'm thinking the auto doesn't help either.
Cheers

Isuzu 4jb1-t repower
Anybody have any knowledge on what a moderately straight forward repower would be for a later model diesel to replace a 2.8 TD in a 1st gen bighorn? I'm liking the vehicle and the fact its only done 160ks, body and interior is mint I think its worth keeping, however the 2.8 with the auto trans just ...

It will not be a couple days job.
Just the fact that your asking, and unsure of the simpler details like fuel lines and engine mounts suggests you will struggle let alone get it done in 2 days.
U can do it, but allow a lot of time

With that budget mate you have a lot to choose, comes down to what your preference is. What's more important first and fore most? On road comfort or off road ability? Spend $4k on something then $2k on mods? I like the surfs, they feel like a car to drive, n heaps of aftermarket parts, the 1kz motor...

Re: excess oil in catch can
Cheers guys, that was my suspicions, just confirming, not stressing too much, I know if I fit a 3.1 dipstick tube I can fit a drain line but no harm in topping up with new oil every tank a gas either, I'm not realy enjoying the auto so it will probably be on trade me in the new year

excess oil in catch can
So after fitting a catch can to the Isuzu 2.8 and after doing 500km in short to med trips over the last 2 weeks I checked the can and it already had approx 500ml.
Is the only reason for excess oil caused by excess blow by which is only caused by worn rings?

Re: V6 Commodore engine swap into Surf
Have you checked the usual things? Would you be happy with the 2.8 if it was running sweet? Either way you go it would be worth spending some time getting the diesel running right, a non turbo 3l sells for $2k so you may get some good coin for it if it was running right. White smoke and lack of powe...

Re: V6 Commodore engine swap into Surf
Can't answer ur above query but can I burst your bubble??? If your surf does infact have a 3l 2.8 in it (which means its been converted at some stage) as these weren't factory in your model, then you already have a damn good engine. For a cheaper price than it would cost to convert to the petrol 3.8...

Yea waste gate and injectors, was the timing checked?
How dirty is the intake? May be worth stripping everything back to the intake manifold and cleaning, it will cost you mothing , just time, process of elimination

Re: hilux ln130 2.8
Is it a surf or hilux? ln130 is a surf, it's its a hilux then it will already have solid front end. If so, as suzolla said, strengthen the drive train, slap a turbo on off a 2.4, shave the diff housings when you pull the diff's out to fit auto lockers, and ur away, don't let anyone tell you the hilu...

Re: Tyres for the Beach AT or HT?
Comes down to your preference but with sand it isn't about traction at all, its about sitting on top of the sand and preventing digging. So wider, flatter the better. Can't answer the fuel consumption bit, but I noticed a big difference in my td27 terrano going from stock rims n tyres to aftermarket...

Turned the fuel up to the point where I can see the faintest hint of black smoke under load, virtually not even there, its made a good difference throughout and take off from a stand still is no longer painfully slow.
