Good effort. Neat to see some pretty std (ifs even) trucks getting stuck in and having a crack. You dont have to have 35's to go hard. (that almost sounded like murray speaking)

7/10 and I claim 1 bonus since those restricted rules didn't exist the last time I looked at a Road Code. (Which is a piss poor excuse since it's driver responsibility to keep up to date)

Plenty of 2WD buggy's running on beaches all round the country. Sands all about power to weight, and flotation. As crash said - widest tyres you can fit, road patterns are fine or AT, pick the right gear and keep the jandle down.

Airbag spring helpers - any experiences?
I've got LWB prado with about 3" lift springs that are very soft. So excellent flex when running empty but trouble starts when I jam 5 people plus climbing gear on board - back end sags out badly and its a pig on the road. I'm using Rancho adjustables, winding up makes things a bit better but r...

Went climbing up the Avoka. Managed to drive right up to about 1/2 k from Avoka hut, that saved 6km of walking from where I thought we'd have to stop.

There's a 110 cut down to 90 in the CLROC. Owner's often said he wishes it was 100. Bit more faffing around chopping up bodywork and so on rather than just swapping for SWB parts though.

Nice to see NZ logo on some tech gear. Flying in the Iroquoi's is a bit like hitching a ride in a series landie: all good but there's better tools for the job (fetch popcorn now for LR bites)

Re: Sheffield 2013...
I'd be in. Did the Oxford teams event because it was at that clubbie level. Not into sitting bogged in bonnet deep slop waiting for a tow. Adds a lot to organise 2 seperate courses though because there's no challenge for the top trucks at the level I'm happy to play at. Presumably thats why they dro...

nteresting call indeed... Skip to 2:25: 1000 RTI coiler open vs spring under leafer locked Excuse the thread jack sorry Blake... Re: 185 Surf vs 90 Prado
At the "easy" end of the off road scene the 90 / surf is as good as any other IFS truck. But unless you're into some real hi tech setups then IFS just dosen't articulate enough. So if wheel's are in the air you need to hit harder to carry momentum through the obstacle. And then you have sp...

Re: 185 Surf vs 90 Prado
They are both really road cars with 4x4. I used a LWB 90 Prado with 50mm spring lift as a shiny club truck for 4 or 5 yrs. Was surprisingly capable (in to Lake Daniels, Godley, Rakia, No Name Rd, etc) but in that time I did a transfer case chain & gears, a couple of CV's, the front diff (its tin...

Hey Ineil - I'd be keen to do mine trip Sat. Not sure how your rivers are looking at the moment, assuming they're pretty normal we should be able to get through before they get up too much. I'd say they'll be cranking by Sunday. My 2C. Catch you somewhere Fri nite or Sat morn. Cheers, Steve (blue LW...

Like the idea. I've got 2 sets - heavy vee bar ladder type (awesome off road but bump too much on road) and thin chain diamond (road and ski field) Never looked into costs but have often thought a heavy set in diamond pattern are what I really want - I recon it would be a "best of both worlds&q...

You set on running crossplys? That would be my first decision now that there are some good open patterns available in radials. (road manners vs tearing out sidewalls)

Used to love hooning AP to Klondike shelter in my 1600 escort. Gave up when the viaduct went in and the heavies and caravans started using the route (Probably actually just got old and slow and all responsible with family on board, but I still blame the traffic)

Bingo - that's the part. Mines a 10000 not 9000 but looks same, probably just diff gears.
You're in QT right? Coming up to Chch anytime soon?
PM me what you want for it, might get you to post up the bush and we'll sort out catching up on the heavy bit somewhere.

Re: 35/11.5/15 Simex tyres fit on 8" or 10" rims
Measure backspacing = wheel flange to edge of rims.
Measure rim width and split in half to get center measurement
The difference between backspacing and center is the offset. If its closer to the hub (wheel sticks out further) its negative offset.
Or just ask on ORE and someone will know.

Re: 35/11.5/15 Simex tyres fit on 8" or 10" rims
10" rims look cool but not enough side pressure on beads, if you drop below about 15psi off road you'll start popping tyres in ruts. I'm running 10.5" simex on 7" rims and they are fine so your 11.5s on 8" rims should be sweet. I also run 12.5" BFG MT's on alloy 7" as w...

WTD Winch drum plastic bush
Anyone got a stuffed old winch I can beg, buy or beer swap parts off. I've got an old GEW10000 cheapie that I just pulled down for some TLC. The plastic bush from one end of the drum is torn up. Its 63mm ID, 66.5 OD, 12mm wide, 5mm lip. Don't know if that's a standard size or a one off. I tried a co...
