Re: 1HDT Big End Bearing Shell Replacement
So it's been a couple of weeks now and you know when you do some major work you are always listening for those strange sounds. Now I have noticed, after the engine warms up a little the a very faint random ticking sound appears from the bottom end. It doesn't tick all the time, just very randomly. S...

Re: 1HDT Big End Bearing Shell Replacement
Cheers for the advice and parts guys. Any idea on how long the ACL bearing shells should last? Change again after another 300,000km or every 100,000km ?
It's all done and is a bit quieter. Was fairly straight forward, just bloody messy lying under the truck getting them all in.

Re: Improving the TD27t
Let it breath. The most significant difference to mine was making a 3 inch expansion chamber from the turbo, that reduces down to a 2.5inch straight through exhaust. The intake also needs a little help and so open it up a little. The standard airbox isn't really good enough. If you're thinking of do...

Re: engine and auto swap
I haven't tried it myself, but the engine, trans and transfer all together is such a large object, I doubt you could easily slide it out in one go. The weight distribution would be terrible and angle you would need to tilt it making it almost impossible to get out in one go.

Now time to drill and easy-out the broken stud. They ccome out pretty easy as they would have been loose before they broke off.. All mine were loose so I would just try to get a flat screwdriver in there and try it first.. might surprise ya.. Dam close with the screwdriver. Unfortunately the last p...

Re: Landcruiser swivel housing bolts
Have just taken the nuts off the studs and even the studs are loose. When you tighten the nuts it may seem to have fixed the problem, but check the studs also. They have a star shaped end which a 9mm socket seems to fit nicely. Not sure if there is a special socket for it. Now time to drill and easy...

After a bit of a shock finding a broken stud, this is a warning for all cruiser owners.
Please check these as they are known for loosening and then snapping the studs. One cruiser owner only had one left.
Hate to think of the consequences.
Check them now!

Cheers for the info and offers guys.
I think I've found what I was looking for. The below information mentions to match the bearing numbers against the crank shaft and connecting rod numbers.
Do the bearing kits all have numbered bearings?

Hi All I'm preparing to replace the BEBs on my 1HDT that's done 308k's. Just had a few queries..... This part isn't quite clear...

Solved my problem. Picked up a 5 seat VX Cruizer. Since the kids are still fairly young I'm going to use the 5 point harness option for the middle position. Once they get over 35kg I'll install the 3rd row. Adding a 3 point belt to the center just isn't viable. Just Cruisers down south sell the 3 se...

Re: ***BUS WANTED***
When I was looking for an 80 series, there don't seem to be any that have triple diff lock and 3 rows of seats, cheapest way to get both was to buy a triple diff lock and have a 3rd row installed after. 3K for lockers, $2K for seats Yeah that was another option I was considering. Re: RE4R01A Manual Shifter
OK, so just an update.
I've decided to modify the setup slightly and now have a arduino micro-computer that has been programmed to control the trans in place of the TCU. In addition I'm going with a modified up/down ratchet shifter which will only allow a single gear change per smack of the shifter.

Re: lifting terrano rear cheaply
Good Idea!!! a mate just said have to muck about with shifter for 4wd,said it was a price, any truth to it? If you are doing a body lift, then you may find that you need to cut the channel of the 2WD - 4WD selector a bit to give it more travel. Or it won't quite engage into 4WD-Low. I had to cut the...

Surprisingly true.
I did go with the straight through 2.5inch in the end. Sounds fine to me and Mr WOF.
I also had to rebuild the little 1.4 Astra exhaust and those things are bloody obnoxious in comparison.

Oooo, not good.
Thanks Peter and Dan, I had word last night that my mate managed to get it running again. He was very lucky, a couple of broken glow plugs, sucked all the water out of the bores and surprisingly it's alive again.
Later down the track it might show signs of other issues.
