Re: trans flush. do it myself or pay for it??
I'm kinda with Mike on this. I did a filter replacement and transflush myself on my t700 trans. Spent a couple of hours messing around and went through two and a half 4 litre bottles of atf. (I wasn't very efficient) Worth paying someone a hundred bucks to do it (even though I assume they do not rep...

Non-ORE winch truck type projects directory?
As I am a poor and busy student these days, I am living my 4wd building life vicariously through ORE. As such, I have read all the build threads. I find Outerlimits a little hard to navigate in terms of finding good build threads. And a lot of the Pirate stuff is very different to what we do here. C...

How much is this thing shortened?
Did you cut a section out of the chassis? or just move the axles?
Cheers.

You are absolutely right Peter, and I need to eat my words a bit. The author is largely correct, I was reacting emotionally to the clearly bias view being pushed. Your suggestion is a good idea. I wonder if such a gesture would receive equal publicity? I'm sure in the long term it would be great. I'...

What is that article even about? I'm not sure the author has a point of any kind? Did he/she state the obvious that not all paper roads are up to spec for their corolla to travel? Or did they mean to point out the other obvious ideas such as mountain bikers generally prefer to ride mountain bike tra...

I have a larger JBS (Blackwoods in house brand) http://jbstools.com/product/chest-tool-9-drawer-jbs-ah-4334/ It is only 2 years old, but spent most of that time in the back of a service truck. Apparently made by the same people that make the power built ones, but made from a thicker gauge. The magne...

Re: Clints Cruiser Project
Hey Clint. My opinion/experience is that the radius front end doesn't flex fark all so no need for a sway bar there. When I put a sway bar on the back of my lux (same linkages as Klems truck) for Taupo 1000 it made it so much better. Front and back flex was a little more even (instead of the front d...

my truck wont fall under your mod class (hydro steer buggy) I am assuming you have read the rules? I can't see where it says you can't have hydro steering. (only had a quick skim read though) Bernie from Manukau club runs hydro steering (or maybe just hydro assist) in modified class so pretty sure ...

Re: Exo cage compliant on a Full body GQ?
My understanding is that yes, you would need a diagonal brace through the body, but it could be removable. Probably easiest would be build an internal cage and put a pillar/roof bars on the outside? Or cut the cab and do this, http://www.offroadexpress.co.nz/Forums/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=35129&...

Re: ln130 rear flex?
From memory I had 2" lift 80 series rear shocks in mine. Had to lower the bumps by 20 odd mm but gained about 80mm of down travel (and already had more up travel due to the rear end of my truck being lighter than a normal surf and still running std springs). Flexed it up in a hoist as was plann...

The only place I thought the trekkers had an advantage was in loose shingle. Have heard that before. reckoned they were lethal on side slopes Jimbob said this as well after using them for Nelson winch comp, he is selling his, reckons they were useless in the mud compared to his extreme trekkers. I ...

Think they are called Barclays? Through the NZ4wd assn. They were quite good to deal with. Cheaper than the other "Moded car" insurers when I looked around and they covered a bunch of off road specific stuff.

Re: Air-con pump as an oil pump?
Yep. I have replaced many AC pumps that have met their end through liquid getting back to the pump (either over charged or sometimes blocked evaps).
They handle a bit of liquid, but using one as an oil pump would require some mods. I suspect it'd be easier to make an oil pump fit in it's place.

When you flushed the heater hoses did you flush the heater core? And if you did, did you flush it backwards and forwards several times? On my XJ I flushed the core and it kinda worked for about a day. Flushed it backwards and forwards several times, (maybe 10 times each way, few minutes each way) wi...

hi just looking for a new winch for my landcruiser after getting stuck in the weekend and the factory winch stalling and locking up It's not a servicing issue. Some of the seasoned winch campaigners may shed a bit more light on the matter, but I got this memory of Klem building the hilux winch truck with the pto in the back and I am sure that clever chap Mike devised a fishing reel style system to layer the rope on ??? Maybe at one stage, but not that I h...
