OBD II Scanners

I am having a bit of a play and wanted to read/monitor engine performance.

Does anybody have any suggestions for a nice little OBD II Scanner? I would preferably want to hook it up to my PDA - so something like an ELMSCAN or similar would be in order.

Any local suppliers anybody knows?

I am doing exactly that, though mine is a 12v unit in a 12v truck. I am hard wiring it directly to the battery with a relay in between to switch it on/off from inside the cab. The compressor would be living in the engine bay. An air tank will come later (I will have to move a few things to make spac...

I dont really want to go tutu-ing with steering components too much. Im quite happy screwing with suspension, but steering components give me the shits. Hey the part I am talking about will be worth like 2 cents (a couple of washers) and they will give you that extra few mms. You are not really pla...

Whether you change rim offset or put spacers, you are changing your track width. This may lead to the need of getting it certified as I believe only 25mm track width increase is allowed without certification. What you can do to avoid contact at full lock is to use a simple washer behind the steering...

Told me I was talking bullshit. I'll direct him here, and to other websites that confirm this. Its always g...

Hey, I am just having fun. But in all fairness you are comparing a Rubicon spec JK with a non-Rubicon spec TJ. TJ Rubicons never made it here. If they did, thats what I would have been driving around. You should only compare TJ Sahara with JK Sahara, in which case all TJ export Sahara/Renegade model...

But I have ordered a new KJ Wrangler Rubicon so we will see how that goes, mind you, it will not be put to the true off road test for a while, but I will still have a smile on my face as I drive it to work every day!! That should be JK Wrangler. KJ is a Cherokee I believe. Saw / test drove a 4dr va...

I am sure the 50 psi is supposed to be the "max" rating of the tyre, which is stamped on the sidewall. How heavy is your truck? Running constant 50 psi seems very high/odd, unless its a commercial truck of some description carrying heavy load. I drive a TJ, which is very light (comparatively) and is...

A fully restored CJ7 for show and tell.

I drive an auto and was very skeptical of it when I bought it. However, I have now grown to love it. Auto gives me more control over obstacles as I don't have to worry about stalling, particularly on steep hill climbs where I might have to stop and then re-start. I have learned to use my left foot f...

Can you post more details i.e. his Trademe a/c name, etc so people can track him, as well as not deal with him in future.

A little bit about what happened also helps. Sorry about your loss though.

I would have loved to do an air-con conversion, but there is not much space upfront on a Wrangler with factory air-con. It can still be done, but too much changing of pulleys/belts is involved. The kit is available from Kilby, but $$$$

Thanks for you reply though.

Bushranger Max Air (compressor)

Any comments on the compressor. Is it good, bad or ugly?

I intend to put a tank in front of it for airing up my tyres after trips.

Have you heard of the original 4x4s, the Jeep!!! Still comes very capable from the factory, particularly now in the Rubicon package (Wrangler SWB or LWB with factory front & rear lockers, better diff and transfer case ratios, skid plates, 32" tyres, etc.....)..

Yes, logic. It would have been too logical and rational to raise an issue at the time. Doing it afterwards allows the benefit of hindsight!

May be you should just wait till mid next year and get the new Wrangler. It will be beam axle, four dours, coil springs, factory 32 inch tyres. You would also have the option of a CRD or petrol. The four dour version is supposed to be as big (if not bigger) than a G/Cherokee.... I am joking, of cour...

On a XJ, possible to just extend the driveshaft (don't know for sure). But on a short wheel base TJ, its the angle of the joint at the transfer case that becomes the problem (too acute). Hence you have to eliminate the slip yoke and go with a fixed yoke. Once you change the yoke to a fixed component...

I run a TJ (hence the name). Only needed a 2" lift to get to run 32 inch tyre. I have also put disconnects on the front sway bar, I get no rubbing. If you have to have 33+ inch tyres, XJ would need a decent lift or a bit of fender trimming (or both). Also, NZ new (now old) Wranglers come with Dana 4...

Do you have Dave's number, I might be interested in one for my TJ.

I have seriously been thinking about making one myself, especially since I want it to come out on the passenger side (and not the driver side).

Guard clearance was fine with no lift and front end connect to the sway bar with 265/75/16s. Renegades came with 16 wheels, not 15s. When I disconnected, it did rub a bit, but with an OME lift - everything is fine now.
