Re: good first 4x4
$4K and 4 door I reckon an XJ Cherokee is pretty hard to beat. Assuming you don't mind the fuel bill. Mine owes me about $2500. For $4K you could buy a mint one, or spend $2000-$2500 and have something a little more rough but have money to service/upgrade it. Drive train wise from what I read they a...

Re: tyre heights (inflated diameter)
Nice one Skid. Interesting stuff and interested to see more. Treps would be nice to see. Are you sure the Silverstone and Simex 35/11.5-15 measurements are around the right way? Agreed. Had a mates (very near) new 35x11.5 Silverstones and my new 35x11.5 Simex both mounted on my 8.5 rims sitting side...

Re: 1uz exhaust size
Even a GTR skyline doesn't need 3 inch exhaust's to make the axle snapping power expected from a twin turbo. Show me a worked GTR thats running a 2.5" exhaust??? exactly the point... you dont need to work a RB26dett to get good power. mine is 320 bhp @6800rpm at the wheels with the factory set...

Re: whats the cheapest way to raise a LN85 hilux 4 inchs
if i just did a 2 inch body lift, what tyres would fit on it then? you have to realize that's a fairly vague question. Are your springs sagged to hell? Can you tolerate a little rubbage at lock and bump? I had 33's on my RN36 with no body lift, not bad springs and 8.5" rims with a big offset (...

Re: whats the cheapest way to raise a LN85 hilux 4 inchs
Why do you need to raise it? Tyre clearance? If so just borrow an angle grinder, a hammer and some vice grips. Spend $20 on grinding discs and paint. Maybe even splash out $25 on some sikaflex and a bunnings caulking gun to use as a "flexable bog" to fill up some of the gaps after you cut ...

I have twin 2.5" on mine with a crossover pipe, when it was on the dyon last time it was pointed out that it was choking at the top end. If i had the room id be going to 3" 3 inch? off four cylinders ...think about that for a second. I can under stand 3 inch on a single turbo six cylinder...

Re: Am I on the right track - Toyota Hilux Surf KZN130 Mods
On the topic of welding to the chassis, It seems rock sliders are bolted to 10mm plate that is welded to the bassis rails, so I assume rock sliders must be certed also? I ask as If I am going to go to the effort of certing I would prefer all the cert-able items are on it when I do it. You could wel...

Yeah on chassis that are high tensile (basically no popular Toyota or Nissan 4wd chassis are from what I can gather) then you are not allowed to weld to them. You can weld to a surf no trouble, but it may require a cert.

Re: Am I on the right track - Toyota Hilux Surf KZN130 Mods
Ideally bolt two 10 000 pound rated hooks on each end. Hooks are roughly $25 from repco or supercheap etc (from memory). Ideally drill a couple of holes in the chassis and bolt them on using a sandwich plate inside the chssis. If you have to weld something on to bolt these to make sure the welder kn...

Yep. Read all of this thinking 15x8 was the only thing to mention, only to find the last two people agree. Reasons are that you will save some coin, will keep your beads seated better/be able to run lower pressures and avoid non-beneficial width. The down side is most tyre company's specify 8.5inch ...

I have heard that with forced induction on a lexus 2.5 can still be limiting. Mine will be 2 of 2.5 into single 3. Couldn't fit anything bigger.

:D All right then. Still a long way from finished. The black pen shows where the final cut will be. The bonnet will be held down with flush fit bonnet pins and the missing bit will be 3mm plate bolted down to the x brace. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640x480q90/401/qfbo.jpg http://imagizer.imag...

They are pin, but there is a sealed cover on alot of them that has the actuators for the TEMS (or what ever it is) suspension adjustment. You have to get the top of that first, and if you have never seen one before, might be tricky to suss it out by feel.

dirt comp mag in Chch?
So where can I purchase the Dirtcomp mag in Chch? It's usually hard to find, yet alone when I don't know the city and every second street has road works. Ideally somewhere near New Brighton or The Uni?
Cheers.
Cheers.

Re: Double fans
I have heard a figure that anything above approx 30kph then the fan does nothing. Also you might find that your mechanical fan moves much more air than the electric, such that the electric is a restriction or has no effect. You would have to try it to know for sure though.

So. Lots of stuff going on with my move to Christchurch and sorting out uni. I guess the idea would be that they are locked out. Like with a padlock. I have seen a road going truck that had the wheel brake levers/handles removed and a steel box folds and locks over the master cylinders whilst on the road. This was to satisfy the cert man I expect. Lke you say, they need to b...

No licence required to buy the gas in Nz YET. It's coming though. Not sure on the top up canisters. Probably becuase it reinforces the idea that topping up a leaking system is ok (which is basically the same as knowingly releasing it to atmosphere) which is just not a real environmentally friendly l...

If the only reason to change is the criticism, then don't change. If however you are getting hung up on stuff and your mates are having to drag you everywhere, that's not so cool. As said above, body lifts are good if you are happy with your suspension but want bigger rubber and need space (an angle...

I have no info for you re over driving other than I have made mine about 13% smaller. My truck won't be running for a year though so no idea if it works. Don't go to fast as you dont want to cause any cavitation.
