Interesting. If my Defender ever needs a head it was going to get an AMC head.

Might look into that. :D

At the mo I'm trying to find someone I know with a Tee Kay tester :D

Bro in law reckons there's one at the Ambo workshop, so might be in luck

Re: 1kz-te using water........

Yep, I think I will go get it tested. I had a brain wave ( very rare  ) when I got home from work. While the engine was hot, I put a big funnel on the top of the radiator filler and then filled it up with water. I was then able to better see if anything was going on with the engine hot. Sure en...

We all no what that means right.............  Its got about 220,000ks on it, so its getting to about the right age for it to happen, and I have been watching it closely looki...

Urgent Help Required!!!!!!!

Hey folks, we are on the road as is everyone at this time of year and have been majorly let down by the auto sparky I use. I sent both of Betsies Alternators in for a full birthday a few months ago, one of them lasted to Lake Tennyson, so fitted the spare and that lasted about 4hrs. On both alternat...

Re: Maratoto (often known as the “Wires Track”)

I heard this morning that the track has been repaired a bit and the big holes filled and is now open??

Good news, well done to those that have put in the hard yards to make this happen, I know it was a long hard road :)

Re: [LN65] 2L-T Suggestions

My vote is just to disconnect the waste gate and turn the max fuel screw up so it's just getting enough fuel to make 15psi boost and draw the line there. If you disconnect the waste gate it should be hard to over fuel it and melt the pistons. The most noticeable gain from a pump tweak will be adjust...

I have had good results with silverdale, to answer that question. As above, if your rad is in good shape just flush and maintain. Fan hub: I did a writeup on that with pics on the KZN185 surf forum in aus. I have just altered the adjustment screws inside the hub about 5mm and that has made a much l...

Interesting you should post this right now :D :D I have just swapped out my factory adjustable shocks on my daily driver KZJ71 for a set of the yellow Munro 4x4 adventure shocks and I am bitterly disappointed. The compression damping/valving on the shocks is all wrong for an unloaded vehicle on stoc...

LJ80 Rear Axle Housing wanted

Does anyone have any leads on a rear axle housing, bare or complete for a LJ80??

I have a complete front and rear housing to go under the LJ50, but the rear housing is badly rusted around the spring platforms. Not much use.

So I'm after a half decent rear housing if anyone knows of one lurking??

Landcruiser KZJ71 handbrake adjustment

Any of you Toyota buffs have a good method of adjusting the handbrake on one of these?? It looks the same as the 80 series system, cables and handbrake drums on the rear hubs. I remember it being a tricky, the adjustment being done at the drum end first then the main cable to the leaver. What's the ...

Re: LD28 Turbo setup

Pretty sure turbos don't need much flow and pressure, from memory they usually get a restrictor in the inlet side, and a nice free drain back to the sump. To much oil and pressure causes foaming and bearing failure or something from my vague memory when I was snailing my Safari way back when...........

Re: 80 Series Hi 4WD noise

I've had a couple of incidences with Aisin hubs where they have been disasembled for some reason or other and then there have been issues once reassembled. Wirring/grinding noise, a bit intermittent, always happened over a certain speed. In stripping the hub down it had been heavily greased, and the...

Re: Any KZJ78 for sale????????

I've decided they must all have been scrapped, the 2.4's all did cylinder heads early on or generally just lunched themselves and weren't worth the expense of paying a work shop to fix/rebuild. The 1kz suffered the same deal, used for towing and heavy work as the motor pumped out the horses, but hea...

I imagine there will be a group of us doing less demanding/vehicle friendly tracks also, so it's not all go hard or go home. There's so much to do and see. For example, if the hard crew are setting off to do Mt Fredruck or whatever, the more vehicle friendly option is to head out with them, then go ...

Re: Maratoto (often known as the “Wires Track”)

Well, I'm keen to put my money where my mouth is. Especially for that track/area, as it holds some sentimental value due to our family connection to the original farm up there, followed by our involvement (as part of the Manukau Club) in getting access back in there in the 80's. We've still got some...

But the plan is to ACTUALLY do work on the track when the weather improves and the ground drys out??? If that's the case, and work does get done and not just talked about, then that's fantastic and no one will be worried if the tracks closed for a few months longer!!!!!
