Re: Clints Cruiser Project

On about the 9th anniversary of smacking up my passenger door at the Reefton challenge, the right combination of having some $$$ in the toy budget, remembering to look for one & actually finding one all came together & I finally got around to replacing it. Jeez there's a lot of stuff going o...

Looking good - what an epic project!

One thing I'd do differently with that wiring is use relay mounting blocks for all those relays rather than having loose terminals. Super tidy otherwise :D

Cool!

Best you get a coat of paint on the outside to keep up with the missus's styley work on the interior. I reckon zebra stripes would be awesome :P

Shed floor coating?

Hi Guys Will be moving into a new shed in a few months, it's got a decent smooth clean concrete floor in it, I'd like to paint / coat / seal it somehow & am wondering if anyone else would like to put in their $0.02. My current shed got a coat of basic Dulux concrete paint which has lifted a bit ...

Best of luck getting everything ticked off for the cert. Truck mudflaps are fairly cheap at TWL & big enough that you can cut them down to whatever shape. Otherwise if you can find an engineering supplies outfit that does conveyor belting they'll often have a variety of suitable stuff & poss...

i have 3.73:1, so i cant get the lockers and then regear in the future if i want to go to 35's... 35's & D30's do not play nicely together. Even D44's are marginal for big rubber. Rigs I have seen with autolockers in the front have always been good at sliding sideways off the track. Good tracti...

If you really want 'best', not 'best cheap' SWB I'd be looking for a Nissan Safari, 4.2 turbo diesel. Very tough & capable vehicle with a huge range of aftermarket options. Often they'll come with really useful factory options like a diff lock & PTO winch. It's getting harder to find a good ...

The best value 7" round lights I had on my old Suzuki were some 70/55W sealed beam ones. Good light & lasted for ages. Wagner 7012 I think, cheap from Repco - was a while back so dunno if they still have them. Semi sealed units with high watt bulbs give great light but blow heaps, especiall...

Not sure on the specifics of the Hiace transfer box but if your hubs are out (& have actually disconnected) then there is no way you can have any windup. It could be a shifter issue.

If you truss the top & shave the bottom it all evens out according to my wheel alignment report :D

Good advice from deranged though - if you want to be fussy I'd do each bit separately, prestressing it to suit.

If you've had water in there your oil will look like a milkshake. I used a terrain tamer kit to rebuild mine which all went in no worries. As above you'll need a press, pullers too IIRC. One good trick is to glue the layshaft thrust washer in place with superglue so it stays in place during re-assem...

Going off a hazy memory here but I think the factory camper style Safari I saw had a higher roof than the std hi-top Safari. No idea how common they are but probably worth keeping an eye out for. My Sis & her hubby had a 4x4 Hiace that they set up as a camper - they were a bit disappointed with it's 4x4 ability. Too low & lots of overhang, hard to fit decent tyres. Depends on how hardcore you want to go of course. I've seen a hi-top LWB Nissan safari with what looked like a factory c...

Personally I don't think any surf would be the best value for money. Given the basic requirements any stock lwb diesel would be good. Hi Mate, there's not a huge amount of public riding areas close to town but you'll find heaps of organised trail rides around the central north island farms & forests, especially over winter. Some of these are a bit gnarly for quads but many should be good fun, call & ask if you're not sure....
