They're about as reliable as the 3L the trans is different to the td42, the diff ratios are normally 4.6 over this side of the ditch, if you can get it cheap enough drive it till it dies then drop a 4.2 an trans into it

Re: New WOF rules announced

I think as a wof inspector you should be able to asses weather the vehicle will be safe till the next wof i.e. will those pads/tyres etc last 6 months or 1 year? If in doubt fail it.. No it has to be assesed as it is presented on the day, some discression is used but its limited to how it looks on ...

Re: Mechanical Beadlock Questions (road legal)

I think pro-comp make a heavy duty 4mm thick rim, not sure about availability in Nz though. Steel weld on beadlocks would be my pick with an extra band welded into the inside lip of the rim. As monstr said they need to be certed an need the 36 bolts to be certed. Id steer clear of alloy outer rims a...

Re: Welding front diff - with auto hubs

Welded front is bad mmmkay.. Do you really need a front locker? Is it worth the effort an expense versus replacing the rear lsd with a good locker. Or is there a mitsi Lsd centre from another vehicle thatll bolt into your front diff? You may find that with a locker/ welded centre in the rear you don...

If youre just welding at home one of those cheap $100 auto helmets will do just fine. I used one at work for 3 years. Only replaced it cos I couldnt find a replacement lense protector. You'd be glad you didn't go hitachi then, I've had my drill an 1/2" rattle gun over a year now, rattle guns great but the drill has been a bit rubbish from the start. Chuck slips all the time an it kills the batteries real quick not very impressed with it

Think the Bj74 is more of a jap domestic market model
Bj74 13bt - bj73 3b engines
Is the 73 12v or 24v?
Havent seen many/any auto 73's, my 74 was 13bt+auto
Bj74 had a clutch booster like a pootrol an maybe 80series? Dont think the bj73 had the booster

I used to have a 1000fps air rifle when I was farming. It was a bit in humane in that it would go straight thru them an I'd have to hit them a few times just to slow them down. For your area I think the trap idea would be the go if you don't want your neighbours to see you chasing mag pies around wi...

Pretty common winch set up over here. Used to work with a guy who has a twin motor 24v high mount winch built by the same guy in his mwb patrol. They don't run 24v thru 12v motors. They run up to 4 motors thru custom made gear set up. They have a winch dedicated 24v alternator an separate batteries....

Hmm, thats very true about building the locker part. I supose if its too aggressive i can always loosen it up a bit. An I correct in thinking you're only running 33"s? Even on 35"s you will barely notice any adverse affects of the LSD  I don't even notice mine with 10psi in 37"...

Adjust your driving style first an foremost  an tell your mate to do the same.
my vote would be 60 series diffs with long fields an detroits for a tough budget diff. Having the clutch as a weak link is a terrible idea. Least you can remove a broken cv an drive home

Put it in. Got one in my trol diff in my cruiser. Doesn't really try to pull you straight or do anything like that. It's not as good as having a locker obviously but its far better than an open diff.
