Re: Silverstream firebreaks
Seems like we need to get in touch with the owner of the land :?: Maybe just go an introduce ourselves and ask if we can tread lightly? I think that my dad knows someone in the know. I know it's a bit of a stretch, but I can see if I can track him down and ask him. A connection is always a bit of a...

Re: Silverstream firebreaks
I went for a bike ride up here on Saturday. I thought I'd take some photos and leave them here for anyone's future reference. Everything looks so much tamer in photos! https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2899/14413789049_7462b834c8_c.jpg https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5078/14597089161_2eef3f9e11_c.jpg ht...

Re: sj413 diff locking
yes, was thinking that can it be done without pulling it to bits? If I was going to do it, I'd do it like this so that you don't need to disassemble it. I was thinking that you may have wanted to weld the two rings only in case you ever wanted to revert it back. But I guess that's why you have a sp...

Re: sj413 diff locking
http://forum.difflock.com/viewtopic.php?t=27773 If you do it this way (only 2 of the gears) you can reverse it by replacing them. I don't know how it would go with there being a bit of movement in there though. Never heard of the shims thing? Personally, I'd weld the crap out of it, especially if yo...

Re: SJ413 build info
Man, I want one now so I can get out there and start learning some stuff! I've dreamed up a few more questions. What parts are needed for the vitara diff head conversion? Any modification required? I think I'd rather do that than the 410 transfer due to cheaper/more available parts and I've never pu...

The problem with that is trying to convince a cocky to part with it! Ive heard most farmers who have them love them to bits. I don't blame them haha

Wanted: SJ413/Samurai
Hi all I'm after an SJ413. I'm curious to see what's out there. I'm going to be taking it off the road (if it's not already), so it doesn't have to be pretty. I'm happy to swing a spanner too, so if there are any incomplete projects out there, that's fine too. Looking to spend about $2000. I know it...

Re: SJ413 build info
Thanks for your advise, that's awesome I'm seeing a big theme of "learn it before you change it" which makes more sense the more I think about it. Sound advise. Maybe I should have stated that this is a super budget build - with a mortgage, one income and a child, spare pennies are few and...

SJ413 build info
Hi guys I'm keen on getting a non-road legal SJ413. I'm planning a bit before I look seriously at any though. One that I am keen on buying off a mate has the 1600 vitara motor in it, which is great. But I have a million questions, and I am a complete novice at the whole offroad thing - including the...

Re: Silverstream firebreaks
I went for a walk up there last night. I walked up Duncraig Grove and walked down to the end of Kiln Street, and there is no gate at the Kiln Street end - so anyone could drive up there. It seems very deliberate too, as the landowners (at least I presume its the landowners) have gone out of their wa...

Re: Silverstream firebreaks
I guessed that would be the case. There always used to be a lot of burnt out/dumped cars up there. Are the tracks Council property/responsibility? I thought they were mostly private land. I can imagine that if Council were to "open the gates" even on a limited basis, the land owners would ...

Re: Silverstream firebreaks
So, I went for a quick (ie short) walk up there on Sunday. The pieces of track that I saw are gnarlier than I remember them being. This track would be a nice mission in the wet. A bit breezy in the dry I think, but the wet would be a different story. So I take it no-one has stories/photos of 4WDing ...

Re: Silverstream firebreaks
So these tracks will be opened again, all going well? That's fantastic news! Where will access points be? I often see MX bikers up there too, and the odd 4WD. If you know how, you can still drive onto these tracks :) And does anyone have any photos or videos of trucks up there from times gone past?

Silverstream firebreaks
Hi all I grew up in Silverstream, Upper Hutt and spent a lot of time walking/biking the firebreaks above Silverstream. I don't know if you can still get in there with a 4WD or not. Has anyone here ever driven up there? And if so, I would be keen to see photos or videos of 4WDing in there if anyone h...

Re: Dune Buggy 1800cc
I'd be super keen to see pics of this! My tip. When you want more power, buy this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/nissan/engines/auction-673561826.htm Nissan's Version of a V-tec motor. Way more torque and top end than an SR20DE. I've got one in my station wagon and it's aweso...

WTB: 60 Series Cruiser pitman arm
I'm helping a mate of mine with a V6 Vitara project. He has a 60 Series cruiser steering box, but no pitman arm. Anyone got one floating around?
