Re: Intake cleaning after EGR block off
I probably wouldnt recommend oven cleaner on anything aluminium. Its way too caustic. EGR cleaner sounds good, but is there the chance of loosened bits of crud finding their way into the engine? Manifold off is probably the safest bet. Admittedly I need to do this too but likewise not keen at having...

Looks like I've got 3 trucks convoying up from BOP/Waikato direction, if anyone else is keen to join, or meet us there, show us around or get lost with us whatever

Re: new to offroading
If you like your Nissans, then a Safari will reliably take a fair bit of abuse, its main downside, and upside, probably being its weight, it allows you to bulldoze your way thru a lot of things, but can also help you sink and become hopelessly stuck in anything too soft :) One of these will probably...

Looks like there's a USB cable that plugs in the accessory port where the headset goes, guess you can get the software from their website or somewhere.

Re: Baofeng Radios
Thought so. I've got an old uniden 40ch handheld, and a uniden programmable dual band base unit that has 40 programmable uhf channels but I don't know if the channel spacing is right to be able to make it 80ch, does pick up police frequencies tho haha, not that I probably need the other 40 anyway mo...

Re: Crap brakes
The shoes I'm sure are pretty knackered so will pull it all down get some new shoes and see if the drums need replacing too, probably just get a good 2nd hand pair to have on hand when I do it just in case. See if that makes any improvement. New discs and pads are on the shopping list anyway but sti...

Re: Crap brakes
A bit of reading seems to agree that the drums are crap and can cause trouble when worn. They have probably had a hammering with a few (too) heavy loads on the back so first port of call will be to pull those down and see whats going on in there, never been adjusted either so likely a good cause of ...

Crap brakes
So the brakes on the terrano are getting pretty crap and need sorting asap. Seems to fade real bad and pedal can be pressed to the floor if pushed reasonably hard. Repeated pumping doesn't build up any more pressure or firmness and the 'brake' light flickered momentarily when I was pumping it today....

Re: R50 workshop manual
Still cant locate one which covers any of the diesel engine models that we commonly get here. Pathfinder ones only cover VG33 and VQ35, Patrol ones only cover TB42, TD42, RB30, RD28E :? Havent downloaded the R20 but theres a chance that may cover the TD27E If anyone knows of one that covers R50 ZD30...

Well not too much to update really. Fixed the welder with a bit of sleeve from the choke cable offcuts, primative but works just may have to dismantle the torch to re-feed wire not much of a biggie the amount I use it, nobody had a replacement liner that would've fit, teach me for buying chinese :oo...

Re: R50 workshop manual
I havent managed to find one either, the V6 one is pretty easy to find but not really useful when you generally want the manual mostly for the engine section. Mines a ZD30 so I could possibly find a Patrol manual tho I havent really looked. The R50 ZD30 is pretty much the same as the Patrol setup, b...

Re: Surge Tank Carb to EFI
I havent seen the top of a GQ tank, but the V6 suzuki intank pumps are physically quite tiny, I managed to squeeze one into a carby hilux tank with the original pickup/returns modified to hold the pump. Only about 38mm diameter from memory. Just another idea

Re: Alternator Question
Ah yup so the 2nd one is power steer pump then. I havnt done that yet. By the looks of it you need the 64-98ish alternator from the 6 not the V8. Seems some people report they bolt straight in, other mention about the having to modify the adjuster and drill the mount out, so must be a few slightly d...

I presume mine is already running all the swift bits since that's what the block came out of. Can't remember how many bolts the crank is, 5 from memory. The crank pulley is a double one I assume the outer one is for air con? Which is a pain as it sits bloody close to my winch, be good to find a comp...

How easy do these falcon ALTs bolt up? I need to replace/upgrade the one in my SJ doesn't seem to have enough grunt with the electric fans on.
Running a swift g16 block so already have the multi-rib pulleys and I presume the stock swift alt. Just wondering how easy the falcon ones fit physically

Yeah that's what I would've thought too, but then how come my truck is so stable with all the rear bags plumbed together and no form of sway bar? Beats me lol.
Not sure either I pressure the cruiser would be longer and or fatter than a terrano

Re: Towing Springs
Haha yup they are definitely the best option, was just curious if anyone had found any heavy duty coils they were happy with, mostly don't like that they generally give quite a bit of extra height with no load, not so keen on the hotrod look on a ute lol. Have a list of crap to buy before WOF anyway...

Has anybody found heavy duty rear coils that are a reasonable compromise between load handling without being too hard riding or too much extra height unloaded? Specifically its a daily driven R50 terrano, only be used occasionally tow the Suzuki around. These ride almost as comfortable as a car norm...

Re: Wrecking G16a vitara
Having said that, you've obviously already worked out you can swap the crown and pinions without buying the adapter kit.. it also looks fairly straight forward to mount up a G16 without the adapter kit too, I would've given it a go if the G16 I brought didnt already have the SJ conversion bits on it...

Re: Wrecking G16a vitara
Yup the crown and pinions should fit, there's a good writeup over on suzukiclub tech section how to do it. 1600 front brakes fit straight on the SJ front but aren't really any better unless yours are shagged. I know they also fit the rear using SJ front brackets, don't know if the vitara brackets ca...

Re: 1985 hilux ln65
I had a 4Y in my old girl, not a bad motor at all really, gutless and thirsty like any old carb donk, but always went, pretty bulletproof and not much power to damage the rest of the drivetrain its just mastering how to make use of it. Converted it to efi in the end as the carb was well knackered. S...

Re: Off-roading with airbags
I suppose its like any other safety device, in general they will save your life but in the very odd instance they can do more damage than good. Seat belt, broken collar bone or flying out the window, I know which I'd choose haha. As a morbid example, an old neighbour of my mums rolled his truck goin...
