Pretty sure I've seen people recommend Circle Track Engineering for driveshaft stuff. Search the forum, I haven't had anything done there myself.

Re: Lower rim offset FJ70
I looked for -44 15 x 8s for ages, they exist but rare as. Bought some tyres on 15x10s in the end. Another set of rims I got cut and changed. Was around $60 a rim to get offset changed, (plus add powder coat if your after a good finish) I just spray bombed. If you pick up some rims for say $200 then...

Re: Kzj78 factory rear diff locker problems
Quite common problem is the magnets are only glued to the housing of the motor. With age the glue lets go letting the magnets drop against the winding, shorting and burning out. If you catch it soon enough the magnets can be glued back in place. Another issue I heard of but not on mine, is a nylon b...

Tyre groover
Anyone know where I can borrow / rent / buy a tyre groover in Chch. Hoping to add 5mm or so depth in the centres of some simex. Not keen on waving the chainsaw at them, I'd either go right through the case or rip my face off.

Had a brand new hilux couple of years back as a work ute, thought it was a great truck. Then I got swapped into a ranger and it was like going forward a generation in vehicle - steered better, rode better, quieter, more power. Hilux was still a nice truck but easy to see why Ranger tipped it off the...

Another option is to run a bead of windscreen sealer round the rims before you seat the tyres on. I was going to tyre shop once a month or so getting beads popped off to clean sticks and muck out. Had a good 6 mth or more no prob since glued on. Couple have got bits of stick jammed in but havn't lea...

Sounds reasonable, tho I might be closer to 9 by time I kick the 2 kids out of bed, get some breakfast into them, then an hour or so Reefton through to Westport. New winch didn't get sorted yet. Pulled the ends off the old one, scraped out some rust, gave the sparky end a dose of CRC, gave the other...

Well if anyone wants to know, the 80 series winch does fit between KZJ prado rails. Only just though, maybe 15mm to spare. Its wee bit off centre, the fairlead in pic is centered. http://i1132.photobucket.com/albums/m561/pradosteve/f4c21909-5b4d-4397-bf56-ee43d1dad736_zpsjuldcrbi.jpg I had previousl...

Good enough. Don't have a boat anyway. Back to plan. :) Post by Mehrts » Thu Jul 02, 2015 9:47 am Thinking out loud here.. If you carried a hi-lift jack, you could use that as a hand winch just to take the load off the electric one if it does decide to jam up on you. That should give you enough oppo...

Re: 80 series winch info
Hmm. I initially thought the front bolt holes were just to hang the fairlead / bumper. But looking at parts diagram the factory front steel plate does wrap round and bolt to chassis rails. Which would resist the twisting force from it pulling off the top of the drum. So if I raise the lead it will b...
