Re: SI Winter trip July 17 2015

I'd be keen for one day at Westport (Fri or Sat), one full day at Reefton and a short day at Reefton on Sun b4 heading home. I'll book in for Thurs night at Reefton so if we wanted to head through early Fri to westport thats fine.

Re: KZJ78 Playdoh Bob and other stuff

As a prado handbrake sufferer I fully appreciate the handbrake mod. (I leave it backed off between wofs now and live with no handbrake, bit of a pain in a manual) Presumably the modified safari disk was dictated by what would fit the subi caliper, and subi was chosen to get similar piston fluid volu...

Re: Long weekend 1st of June

Nah - the super steerer award went to my prado, bent the drag link so much it could only turn one way, rod got hung up in suspension trying to turn other side. Pulled it out straightish with winch, go 100m hit more ruts/logs/rocks bent again, straightened again, bit further, bent again. 3rd time luc...

welding bench top WTD

Bought a cheap n nasty little arc welder a couple of weekend back to have a crack at melting some metal. Have set the bench on fire so I think I better set up a welding table. Anyone got a bit of steel plate say 600 x 600 x 3mm or whatever. Bigger is better. Can swap 4.8 toyo 8" diff head with ...

Stuck on a wee 400mm light bar. Only $100 from aliexp so I wasn't expecting much but its all good. More distance and much wider spread than my headlights on full beam. Admittedly they are fairly pathetic 50/60 sealed beam jobs (got sick of cleaning the muddy water out of my semi-unsealed factory lig...

Re: Crossing upper Rangitata above Mesopotamia to erewhon?

Dont forget to give Erewhon a call for access permission. Messi side is public access to the riverbed. Havelock is usually braided out and easy. Clyde often runs in one channel deeper and quite quick, take time to wander up or down river to find a good crossing spot.

I got centers flipped by Elite wheels on Annex Rd, did a nice job, they balanced up fine afterwards (not that I use them on the road of course)

Clive Royce Engineering (or might be Royce Clive or something like that), was where a friend got his done, price was about the same both places.

Pulled the winch out. Tipped out the 1/2 cup of rusty water that was acting as a secret water cooling system. Cleaned up and back together - hey it freespools out now, cool. Then took the grinder to the panels under the grill so I can get the winch in and out without pulling the whole bar off. Might...

Hi Was up there bout October last yr. Theres a washout near the start but you pick the track up again and its pretty good till about 1/2 way up the valley. After you drop down the big scree I'd just stay on the river after that. We got back on the track but seems like its only being used by quads an...

Re: School me on KZJ78 Diffs

If your pricing up R&P replacement check bearing & seal price as well. (assuming you are doing those since you've got it all open). I got a rude shock, was $600 when I'd guessed cpl hundy. But mine is electric rear locker, I think that has an oddball bearing size so was dearer. And there are...

Another thing you could try is mount the tyre with a good layer of windscreen goo on both beads to glue it on to the rim.

Have a long think about the awning idea if you are looking at a full caravan type awning, not just a pull out shade. My truck had a full awning when I got it, was a great camp setup but too often I wanted to set up camp in a nice spot then use the truck to go further up the valley or collect wood or...

Re: Tyre pressure

I got told a 4psi rule - inflate tyres when cold to what you think is about right. drive 5kms or more on the open rd. check pressures. should go up 4psi. if they went up more tyre is too soft and flexing so heating up. less than 4 its too hard and you aren't getting a good contact patch. I run 33x12...
