the radiator can be one third blocked (all down the bottom by the way) and you can't tell from looking.
That fan and the radiator core are ranked first and 2nd by me, then the thermostat.

is the Eaton Detroit locking diff( non selectable) an option for you? Much cheaper than switchable ones like ARB and EATON eLocker.
Pretty good reputation quality wise, IMHO.

my ld28 in a landie 110 had a very similar/same filter housing as that big black cylindrical one in your photo. Possibly factory?
it was mounted at the front of the engine bay, on the drivers side.

How old is that saw roughly?
Does it start easily?
Does the chain brake work as designed?
Am very interested.

good intro! nice green ute. Did you do all the work on the 2000 hilux yourself? Was the safari snorkel made for the 3rz or did you adapt it? I've been looking for one for my 3rz RZN185 Surf(1996) but have only found one for a 3rz 90 series prado. Could possibly be adapted, you think? I live a few km...

Re: KZN185 surf going through rack ends like water...
Hi Matt, a couple of 185 Surf owners/90 series Prado owners have mentioned this area of weakness on this forum recently. It was suggested that the parts in question are just not stout enough given the weight of truck and the type of driving(in one case , a lot or river stone driving, so it is hard o...

excuse my ignorance... how do you run a diesel motor on lpg?
The massive compression of a diesel motor will not like the high octane of LPG. Won't it go BANG!!!?

HI LIFT jacks Vs Generic copies.
I've been considering purchasing a Hi lift jack. Firstly, is it overkill to have one on "shiny" trips? Secondly, forum sponsor 4WDbits has them for sale. The genuine "HI LIFT" brand 48" ones are approx $220, whilst the generic copies(farm and 4wd) are also for sale, for abou...

Re: Hankook dynapro
the downside of running 16" is that there is a lot less choice in tire sizes than if you have 15" rims. There is also less choice in aftermarket rims. But you don't have much choice if your vehicle has brakes that wont fit inside a 15" rim. Perhaps in a few years 16" will be the ...

same chassis and suspension i've been told. As far as i'm aware, all the 90 series Prados are Fulltime four wheel drive(correct me if wrong), whereas you can put the Surfs into 2WD. In my opinion, there will be no/little difference in off road capability.(assuming you aren't talking about a SWB prad...

Re: 96 Prado with petrol 3.4 V6
The 3.4 Surf is similar to prado, and i've seen guys claim 10km per litre(on trademe-trying to sell!). However, i know a guy with one, and truck only does between 7-8km per litre, and that is on a long trip, to auckland. My 2.7 3RZ surf does 9km per litre on the same trip.(it does 7-7.8km per litre ...

I'm no expert on this.... perhaps you could send an oil sample to be analyzed. That will tell you what the metal bits are from ( e.g. bottom end bearings) and will allow you to make a decision from there. I imagine replacing the bottom end bearings while the motor is out of the truck would be a much...

yes, very good, given what your mechanic friend has observed.
But do take note of the comments above by an earlier poster about the engine power of the (usually super reliable) 2.8 litre diesel versus the big wheels.

Re: Opinion of Vehicle Value
When i was looking to buy recently, a 1996 diesel double cab with those km were $12000. With those extras i'm thinking the guy would want more. Price would vary depending on how good the motor is (in terms of wear) and also panels and underneath etc.

wheel under kit. I bought one supposedly for a 185 series, but none of the bolt holes line up with anything(either the bars or the winder), so was obviously misled. possibly from an earlier model.
All the best with the "wrecking".
