Re: KZN185 bits

with only a two inch lift, i'm not sure you need to do the panhard bracket drop. the angle doesn't change that much. I had a 3" drop bracket , and despite a decent lift, my wheel alignment guy said there was no need for the drop bracket to be fitted yet.

Re: KZN185 Surf: Just want a reliable horse

yes, sorry, The ECU uses throttle position and load to control the shifts I imagine. the "kickdown cable" ups the line pressure at appropriate times.

Re: KZN185 Surf: Just want a reliable horse

from my experience with the a340 trans( admittedly in RWD toyotas) the second cable does both. (unless it is the a340 from a jza80 RZ supra(twin turbo,1993 onwards), in which case there is no secondary cable, the line pressure is controlled by the ECU).

i'm surprised there is an aftermarket diff centre available for the korando. you wouldn't think the demand would be there. Any other aftermarket stuff for them? Do they have a big following in a particular country?(don't say Korea!) :)

Flooding, road closures etc

Over the next 24 hours, due to Cyclone Debbie, there is expected to be much flooding, over many areas of the country. Road closures are happening, but this will likely increase markedly later today. As a 4WD community, with our lifted trucks, we are sometimes called(or volunteer) to take our vehicle...

Re: calling 1KZTE (spec. kzn185) gurus

the auto trans are very good. If yours still has cleanish oil, if you add a trans cooler to it, then it will most likely survive anything the 1kz can throw at it. In my opinion, the software influencing down shifts etc is superior in the toyota 185 surfs, compared to the nissan autos behind the TD27...

Re: Modifying a Runva winch?

everyone wants those old warn 8274s, they end up going for big money on trademe. I saw a 1974(year) model go for $1200 from memory, a box of 8274 parts for $600. I've seen a "TWO UP" kit (i think it was called) made/marketed in NZ, which effectively mounts two motors up top, out of the slo...

well make sure you take the mistral or terrano for a test drive, as the ones without intercoolers are a bit gutless too.

Re: grand cherokee advice

I don't see many of the 5.7 litre models. Plenty of the 4.7s though. My jeep mate suggests that the v8s sound awesome, are very thirsty(not a huge issue if you don't do a lot of km), they are "plush" to drive, and the auto trans can develop issues if it hasn't been serviced.

Re: grand cherokee advice

see if you can get one with the "Quadra-Drive" option, as they are the ones with the LSD front and rear, which makes them very capable. I followed a bog standard one through a deep cut out on North Range Road(Palmerston North) which had opposing cambers front and rear, and the driver just ...

Are the plugs that are getting damaged to "drain" plug or "fill" plug? (I'm sure it will be the former, but thought I'd ask. Given the welding in a "diff shave" can often cause the diff to bow slightly, do you foresee any possible issue welding these protective rings on,...

Re: WTB R20 - manual - diesel driveshaft and x member.

possibly, often OZ freight charges seem high, however, there is not actually a lot of weight in a driveshaft and cross member, compared to say a gearbox or motor or axle . The driveshaft on a 4wd tends to not be as long as a cars one, due to the length of the generous trans plus transfer case.

Re: WTB R20 - manual - diesel driveshaft and x member.

All the R20 mistrals in NZ are automatics. The only R20s with manual gearboxes that are in NZ are ones that have been imported from OZ, where they were sold new as "Terrano II"s . I've only seen two of them. Plenty of wreckers in OZ will have the bits you need though...
